LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It's a good thing Carrie Underwood is performing on "American Idol's" season finale later this week. The country crooner took the top slot in an AOL Television poll asking fans to pick their favorite all-time "Idol," according to Reuters.
Underwood, at 54 percent, bested pint-sized powerhouse Kelly Clarkson, who nabbed just 26 percent of the votes.

The AOL Television poll also ranked some of the contestants and performances of the current Season 7 and in a coincidental twist, songs by David Archuleta and David Cook tied for the top slot. Teenager Archuleta's rendition of "Imagine," and Cook's version of "Billie Jean," both took 35 percent of the votes for best performance of the season.
As for the worst performance, that went to dreadlocked Austin-based singer Jason Castro and his troubled version of "Mr. Tambourine Man," a song he forgot the words on. Castro also took home "most overrated" with 28 percent of the votes.

And those who thought Irish powerhouse Carly Smithson was voted out too early may now know why the "Idol" viewers sent her home - 63 percent of those polled said those with prior-to-"Idol" record deals shouldn't be allowed to compete (Carly previously recorded an album with a major label).
