Brooke Smith ends her run as Dr. Erica Hahn this Thursday on the ABC hit Grey's Anatomy. She joined the cast last season as the outspoken and brash Dr. Hahn, quickly becoming a fan favorite. On Thursday's episode Dr. Hahn made a weepy declaration that she was a lesbian after her bond with Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez) quickly moved into relationship territory.

Examine the love lives of Grey's Anatomy stars.

EW.com's Michael Ausiello reported Monday that the relationship's fast clip may have factored in the decision to dump Smith. But show creator Shonda Rhimes denied the allegation in a statement to Usmagazine.com.

"Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show - Calliope Torres," she said. "Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with "another lesbian." If you'll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season."

Okay. To all of you who said that the show is "shoving gay agenda down viewer's throats".....GET OVER YOURSELVES! I mean, welcome to 2008, where we are actually starting to see equality for a change. Don't you think that gay people want representation on television as well. It's always so ironic to hear relgious people say such HATEFUL things. Turn the cha

i agree that there has become too many gay-themed programs now. it's unnecessary and insulting to those who don't agree with it. that said, there is too much hetero sex on tv, too! it sends an immoral message to today's youth. no wonder they are getting pregnant at an alarming rate when it's glamorized on tv.

I am glad the story line is gone. There is no need for it and it distracted from the overall quality of the show. It seemed to be in there to be "politically correct" and it made no sense. There was no chemsitry in the relationship and Hahn was not a nice person to anyone, even Callie.

This is a shame; when Hahn first came on the show, I found her totally abrasive and rude, but since the relationship with Callie, I actually began to like her.

Too bad. She was a good character. The family didn't like the story line. Callie and McSteamy make another good couple for the show.

I don't think it has anything to do with the lesbian storyline, I think it's more that there is absolutely no chemistry between the characters of Torres and Hahn. I didn't feel it when they were flirting and certainly not since they are together. Ms. Smith finds more success in any and all future endeavors.

In regards to Samantha's comment...Don't think that all people are ignorant to alternative lifestyles just because they don't agree. I believe that the "alternative lifestyle" is not what God intended for us. It goes against the Bible. I do not discriminate against gay people, however I don't agree with it, and I feel like those of us who belie
