Brad Pitt's brother Doug appears in funny new ad campaign
Look out, Brad Pitt — you've got some serious competition! The superstar's younger brother, Doug Pitt, has landed an endorsement deal, and his first commercial is pretty funny.
Virgin Mobile Australia tapped Doug — who still lives in Springfield, Missouri, where the Pitt brothers were raised — to appear in an ad spot in which the married, father of three brags about his run-of-the-mill life. "This is Doug Pitt,” says a voice over at the beginning of the commercial. “The second most-famous Pitt in his family." Then Doug, 45, appears in a variety of scenes in which he's doing very ordinary things, washing his car, paying bills, and making dinner. Even his so-called "man room" is pretty dull. It’s more like a small section of a cluttered family room and Doug, dressed in khaki pants and a sweater, tamely rocks out — with headphones on. "My family doesn't have my appreciation for classic ‘70s rock," he says.
The ad, which will run exclusively in Australia, concludes with a voiceover acknowledging that while "his brother lives the life of a Hollywood A-lister, Doug's life is a little different."
Doug clearly bears a resemblance to his older brother, mainly the cheek bones, and has a strong Midwestern accent. Born in 1966, he's the middle child of Jane and Bill Pitt — falling between Brad and their younger sister, Julie. And while Doug doesn't live the globe-trotting life that his brother and Angelina Jolie lead, he does get around. The owner of a real estate development company, he also works as a photojournalist, and is the director of the charity Africa 6000 International. In 2010, he was named the first ever Goodwill Ambassador for Tanzania and a year later headed a Mount Kilimanjaro climb, which raised $750,000 to provide clean water across East Africa.
Asked if he gets mistaken for his famous sibling, Doug told Extra, "Three times a week for the last 20-something years. I love him to death and couldn't be more proud, but my eyes kind of glaze over when I know it's coming."
And although Brad’s popularity has sometimes caused some drama in Doug’s life — he once had to move because his brother’s fans kept showing up at his doorstep — he's not complaining. "I can't cry too much about it because there's so much fun and good that comes with it," Doug told USA Today of Brad’s success. "Sure, are there days that boy, I wish he was an architect? Absolutely. But overall, it's positive and I wouldn't change it for the world."
And we're sure a nice paycheck for his first celebrity endorsement keeps his feelings positive as well.
