Brad Pitt’s mother pens pro-Mitt Romney, anti-gay marriage op-ed letter

The holidays might be a little awkward for the Pitt family. Brad Pitt’s mother Jane wrote an op-ed letter that was published in the Springfield News-Leader on July 3, and in it, the grandmother of the six Jolie-Pitt children talked about her support of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and opposition of gay marriage – an issue that is near and dear to her famous son’s heart.

Mrs. Pitt’s letter was in response to a June 15 piece in the newspaper, in which Richard Stoecker questioned voting for Romney in the election because he is a Mormon. Pitt called on her fellow Christians to cast their vote for the Republican because, despite their difference in religion, he is “a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality.” She added that anyone who votes for his opponent, who she refers to by his full name Barack Hussein Obama, is going along with someone who “did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer” and “supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage.”

Pitt’s beliefs are the complete opposite of those of her son, who has said publicly that he and fiancée Angelina Jolie would not marry until all gay Americans could do the same. "No state should decide who can marry and who cannot,” the “Money Ball” actor, who has worked to defeat the Prop 8 ban on same-sex marriage in California, said last year. “Thanks to the tireless work of so many, someday soon this discrimination will end and every American will be able to enjoy their equal right to marriage.”

But Brad isn’t the only one with a conservative parent. Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, was once a liberal activist in his youth, but is now an outspoken Republican. In June 2010, the “Midnight Cowboy” actor, also a Romney supporter, wrote an open letter to Obama, which was printed in The Washington Times. “You will be the first American president that lied to the Jewish people,” it began. Voight went on to accuse the President of anti-Semitism and support of illegal immigrants in Arizona. “Your destruction of this country may never be remedied, and we may never recover,” he wrote.

At least Brad and Angelina don’t have to worry about their future in-laws getting along!
