Box Office: Madagascar 3 Stampedes Over Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler

Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler were no match for a lion, a giraffe, a zebra and a hippo.

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted held on to the top spot at the box office for a second week, fending off new releases Rock of Ages and That's My Boy, Box Office Mojo reports. The animated film grossed an estimated $35.5 million, followed, again, by the sci-fi film Prometheus, which took in $20.2 million.

Madagascar 3 lands No. 1 spot at weekend box office

Cruise's Rock of Ages, based on the hit Broadway musical, drummed up $15 million to take third. At No. 4, Snow White and the Huntsman grabbed $13.8 million. That's My Boy, starring Sandler and Andy Samberg, debuted at No. 5 with $13 million.

Men in Black 3 ranked sixth, garnering $10 million. In its seventh week, The Avengers was seventh with $8.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (No. 8, $2.2 million), Moonrise Kingdom (No. 9, $2.1 million) and What to Expect When You're Expecting (No. 10, $1.3 million).
