Bobby Brown Explains Why He Left Whitney Houston's Funeral

Bobby Brown Explains Why He Left Whitney Houston's Funeral

Whitney Houston's funeral packed the inside of Newark's New Hope Baptist Church Saturday. But one notable person who was absent from the crowd was her ex-husband Bobby Brown.

A witness tells Us Weekly that Brown "was allowed to go in, pay his respects and then he had to leave. He was red-eyed going up to the casket and then left. He was there for 15 minutes."

Addressing the speculation that he was thrown out, turned away and rumors that he didn't show at all, Brown, who's schedule to perform at a concert Saturday, has released an official statement, explaining the situation in full.

"My children and I were invited to the funeral of my ex-wife Whitney Houston. We were seated by security and then subsequently asked to move on three separate occasions. I fail to understand why security treated my family this way and continue to ask us and no one else to move. Security then prevented me from attempting to see my daughter Bobbi Kristina. In light of the events, I gave a kiss to the casket of my ex-wife  and departed as I refused to create a scene. My children are completely distraught over the events. This was a day to honor Whitney. I doubt Whitney would have wanted this to occur. I will continue to pay my respects to my ex-wife the best way I know how."

Earlier this week, a source told Us that there is still underlying tension between Houston's relatives and Brown, who married Houston in 1992. Their divorce was finalized in 2007.

    VIDEO: Whitney's ups and downs

"There are family members who felt Bobby drove Whitney into drugs," one source explained. "But now Bobby is clean and Whitney has unfortunately passed. So there's resentment."

I feel the way Bobbie was treated was wrong. He may have been a factor in her drug use, but SHE chose to partake of them. He got clean, and she could have as well.

Whitney sang like a bird, she was a wonderful actress. Whitney & Bobby made some mistakes, one of them was not making Bobbi. God says forgive and forget and love one another. My prayers our with everyone.

If what Bobby is saying is true then I agree it was #$%$ to treat him and his family that way. They were married for 15 years and shared a daughter. He may have introduced her to the world of drug abuse, but she chose to stay in it. They were divorced over 4 years ago. The people to blame for her death are the ones who were with her, not her exhusband. I don't know what sort of relationship he has with his daughter, but it is terrible to think he was kept from her side at her mother's funeral.

Bobby Brown did not introduce Whitney to drugs she was doing drugs before she met Bobby Brown according to friends.

for real, no one is perfect, in this life we may strive for excellence and never attain it but it is for the next generation to realize that mistakes that we make and try to do better than the generation before them, R.I.P. Whitney you will be missed for the many hearts that you touched.

Exactly. They should have allowed him to stay out of respect for Whitney. Im sure she would have wanted him there for their daughter.

How horrible! I have a huge family, and we NEVER have drama at funerals! That is when you must pull together, and give each other support. Maybe the love isn't deep enough to overcome tragedy?!

I am so tired of people making excuses for her. ITS HER FAULT SHE DID DRUGS AND DIED, NOT BOBBY BROWNS

Dave Bobby was the one that started her with drugs. But instead of stoping she continued
      • Dave 3 months ago
LOL, he forced the drugs down her throat? Haven't they been divorced since 07? Bobby himself is even clean, what are you talking about?

This day was about Whitney and BB along with the kids deserve to pay their respects and say goodbye to her crack monster or not. Whitney took those drugs all on her own, so to stop BB from being there was wrong.......where was the family when she puffing and snorting that dope???
      • Here to stay 3 months ago
Her family was right by her side. You can't make someone stop doing something no matter how much you love them. That is why it is called an addiction. You are talking out you #$%$
      • Avalon 3 months ago
The need to do drugs are stronger for the addict........than ......... the love they need from a husband, wife, mother, father or children. Drugs are one of the most evil things on earth right now.

"You can't make someone stop doing something no matter how much you love them."
TRUE. You also can't make someone start doing something that they don't choose to do ..... so anyone putting the blame on Bobby Brown is ridiculous.

This is so not news. But this should be: Sergeant Jerry D.Reed II, United States Army - 2/16/12 at 30 years; Petty Officer 3rd class Kyler L. Estrada, United States Navy - 2/14/12 at 21 years; Lance Corporal Osbrany Montes De Oca, United States Marines - 2/10/12 at 20 years. These three Americans have all died in Afghanistan in the last week. I bet there will not be more than a local ceremony for any of them, certainly not a nationally televised memorial on CNN. People in this country need to take a good look at who their heroes and role models are.

Pas the blame to everyone but Whitney H. WE are responsible for our own actions. She is not the first person, in the limeligh,t to throw her life away . She won't be the last. Shame it had to happen

I don't have any idea what it's like to be in an entertainers life but I think Bobby and Whitney had to deal with some of the same things on their roads to fame, He and She were human with problems and frailties as many of us do. don't judge or hate it only shows what You're made of.

I absolutely agree with those who say that Whitney was her own "devil" as she said in her interview. She was her own worst enemy - Bobby Brown only joined in the party. I don't blame the family because they could not force her to get the help she needed when she kept refusing. She didn't take responsibility for her own life and it sounds like BK is following in her footsteps...I hope not. Whitney sang about God her Father but she certainly didn't turn to Him for her source of help or she would be here.

How can Whitney's family say they are Christians? Bobby had just as much right to be seated on the front row than Ray J did a few rows behind the family. We all knew Whitney's history with drugs and I think it's sad the family had to use Bobby as an escape from admitting to themselves that Whitney made this choice. Nobody put a gun to her head and forced her to do anything. People use drugs as an escape for all sorts of reasons. A child has lost her mother and times will get even harder for Bobbi K if she doesn't start thinking for herself! I'm sure she has memories of the good times she shared with both her parents. Bobby Brown was reaching out to comfort his daughter and they treated him like trash! Such a sad, sad day! The devil is always busy! R.I.P Whitney!
