Sadly, Beyonce won't be starring in another movie any time soon. The singer and actress pulled out of the upcoming Clint Eastwood-directed "A Star is Born" citing scheduling difficulties.
"I was looking forward to the production of 'A Star Is Born' and the opportunity to work with Clint Eastwood," the mom of Blue Ivy Carter said in a statement. "For months we tried to coordinate our schedules to bring this remake to life but it was just not possible. Hopefully in the future we will get a chance to work together."
We wonder if that's the real story, given that her main project this year has been taking care of her newborn daughter. However, maybe motherhood is taking a priority over everything else, which is perfectly fine!
Eastwood hasn't commented on who will take her spot, only saying that they'll announce a new star "early next year." Any female performer would love to get the role of an up-and-coming starlet who falls in love with another star at the end of his career. It is, after all, one of the roles that put Barbra Streisand on the map back in 1976.
Who should get it, though? Let's examine the possibilities.
Esperanza Spalding
Jazz prodigy Esperanza Spalding is best known by mainstream audiences as beating Justin Bieber for the Best New Artist award at the 2011 Grammys. However, she might be getting a lot higher profile since she's rumored to be in the running to take Beyonce' spot.
Is she the right choice? We don't know - we haven't seen her act. However, she could pull a Jennifer Hudson and steal the show like the now-Oscar winner did in "Dreamgirls."
Speaking of Hudson, we think she'd also be a nice replacement for Bey in the role. It would likely put even more distance between the frenemies and former co-stars, but we have no doubts that she'll make a fantastic lead in the film.
We already know Adele has the pipes for the musical film, but can she act? We'd love to see her in the film, but we doubt she'd do is - she's about to have her first baby, after all.
Selena Gomez might be young, but go with us on this one. The former "Wizards of Waverly Place" star has both the acting and singing chops to take on the role. Plus, she has that sort of wide-eyed innocence we think is necessary for the part.
Singer Katy Perry hasn't really proved that she has acting skills, but she is one of the hottest celebs in the business right now. Could she pull it off? We'd like to see her take on something a bit more serious - she's getting to old for the rainbows and bubblegum pop stuff she's known for.
"Pitch Perfect" star Anna Kendrick has both singing and acting chops - she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in "Up in the Air," after all. Kendrick - like Gomez -- can play innocent pretty well, too.
