Beyonce and Other Celebs Who Go to Extreme Lengths to Lose Weight

Beyonce made her triumphant return to the stage over the weekend at the new Revel Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, just five months after giving birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter. During the show, Beyonce talked about how hard it was to drop the 60 lbs. of baby weight in time for the shows.

"Y'all have no idea how hard I worked! They had me on that treadmill. I ate lettuce!" she told the audience. The singer and actress reportedly had a trainer move in with her and Jay-Z, according to Star magazine.

"Beyoncé and Marco are up at 5 a.m. for a two-hour workout, and they do it again at 5 p.m.," a source said in February. "They do a mix of cardio, Pilates, plyometrics, yoga and, of course, dance."

Her diet? Well, she was joking about the lettuce, but her diet was pretty strict and relied on "protein shakes, egg-white omelets, pineapple chunks and lots of ice-cold water."

Her approach to this diet might have been a little extreme, but it's better than the Master Cleanse she went through to lose 20 lbs. for role in "Dreamgirls." The Master Cleanse revolves around drinking a mixture of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper and maple syrup.

"Normally they'd change your makeup or your clothes but I wanted to go the extra mile," Beyonce told China Daily of her reasons for losing the weight. Supports say it supports healthy weight loss and eliminates toxins, but not everyone is convinced.

Still, we like Beyonce's lettuce-and-protein diet over some of the crazier ways celebrities opt to lose weight.

    Anne Hathaway

Gorgeous actress Anne Hathaway surprised everyone when she was spotted on the set of "Les Miserables" with a rail-thin frame and short hairstyle. The Daily Mail reported that the actress was ordered to lose 16 lbs. in order to play Fantine and only ate 500 calories to do it.

Her rep shot down the rumors, though.

"She is on a special diet but is not looking to lose that much weight, and is consuming more than 500 calories a day," the rep told Gossip Cop.

Regardless, she still looks way skinny.

    Adriana Lima

Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima has a body most would die for, but it doesn't come naturally. She told the Sydney Morning Herald that she does some intense workouts - and abstains from liquids - to drop weight for shows.

"No liquids at all so you dry out, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that," the mom told the newspaper. "It's not really the amount of time you spend working out, it's the intensity: I jump rope, I do boxing, I lift weights, but I get bored doing that. If I am not moving I get bored very easily."

Yikes. We'll stick with our normal diets, thanks.
