Talk about the best way to bring in the New Year! Hollywood power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first addition to the Carter family on Saturday, a baby girl named Blue Ivy.
According to "Good Morning America" the couple chose "Ivy" because of how special the number 4 is to their lives. Beyonce's latest album is entitled "4," Jay was born on December 4th, Beyonce on September 4th and the two were wed on April 4, 2008. We'd say that's definitely a reason to keep the number 4 around!
The R&B singer has been under tons of speculation since announcing her pregnancy only a few months ago at the MTV Video Music Awards in September. "GMA" reports the singer gave birth via C-section.
Blue Ivy is certainly an interesting name. Celebrities often name their children strange names in order for them to be unique in the world of Hollywood. Blue Ivy is quite odd but what did fans expect? Could you have seen the couple naming the baby something average like Jenny or Rebecca? Definitely not.
Monroe and Moroccan
Less than a year ago another Hollywood super couple Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed their first born babies into the world and chose odd monikers for their twins.
Born on April 30th, the couple's marriage anniversary, Monroe, a baby girl, and Moroccan, a baby boy, were born to the sound of applause from Mariah's "Fantasy" performance from her 1996 performance at Madison Square Garden. It's definitely not the most average birth or names chosen but what can we say? Mariah's one of the most famous divas in the world!
Apple
In 2004 actress Gwyneth Paltrow and husband Coldplay front man Chris Martin warmly welcomed their first born daughter naming her Apple Blythe Alison Martin. Fans and critics around the world were shocked by the strange name but Gwyneth quickly defended the couple's name choice while appearing on "Oprah."
"It sounded so sweet and it conjured such a lovely picture for me - you know, apples are so sweet and they're wholesome and it's biblical - and I just thought it sounded so lovely and … clean! And I just thought, 'Perfect!'"
Two years later the couple had their second born, a son, and named him Moses.
Coco
2004 was clearly the year for unusual baby names. Actress Courtney Cox and then-husband David Arquette named their first born daughter Coco. When we think of the name Coco it often reminds us of the famous ape who learned sign language so why did Courtney choose such an odd name? Apparently it's an abbreviation for her name her husband said and a compromise they came to. Could the star couple not think of anything else?
Pilot Inspektor
"My Name is Earl" actor Jason Lee is regular funny man but the joke was on his son when him and his wife named their son Pilot Inspektor. The couple said the name came from listening to a song by indie band Grandaddy, "He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot." Pilot is definitely one of the weirder names we've heard of but is it the weirdest?
