Bea Arthur has released a statement to Usmagzine.com after the death of her Golden Girls co-star Estelle Getty:

"Our mother-daughter relationship was one of the greatest comic duos ever, and I will miss her," Arthur said.

Getty who played Arthur's sarcastic mother Sophia on the hit NBC sitcom won an Emmy in 1988 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Saddened by the news, Betty White (who played the nave Rose) told Us, "The only comfort at this moment is that although Estelle has moved on, Sophia will always be with us."

Getty, who suffered from Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disease, died at about 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time Tuesday.

"Estelle's legacy will live on and on through the comedy and laughter she gave to us all, which will forever keep us laughing out loud," her caregiver said in a message on her Web site.

Estelle was a great comedic actress. I have missed seeing her over the years and know that her illness must have really been severe to keep her out of the spotlight. Rest in peace Estelle and Rock on Sophia!

I loved the show the Golden Girls, I loved the way Sophia told her stories about Sicily. All her stories had a point to them and she always made me laugh... I will miss her very much.... Sophia will live on forever

I used to watch Golden Girls with my mom and we loved Sophia. My dad would pretend he wasn't watching but when Sophia unleashed a good one liner, he'd laugh in spite of himself. I know Estelle was in a lot of pain and couldn't remember her friends because of her illness. Perhaps now she's at peace. I hope so. "good night Ma"

Her sarcastic and witty remarks were wonderful! When I first saw the news of her death I was extremely shocked and sad! I know that she is in a better place and doesn't hav
