Best and Worst Looks from the 2012 Venice International Film Festival Premiere and Opening Ceremony

Kate Hudson consistently stuns on the red carpet.

On August 29, stars walked the red carpet at the 69th Venice International Film Festival Premiere and Opening Ceremony, and as with many big events, fashion was at a forefront. The festival allows for celebs to take more risks with their ensembles and to deck themselves out in fashions that are a little more bold. While some made excellent choices with their frocks, others apparently forgot to look in the mirror before they left the house. So who rocked it on the red carpet at the Venice International Film Festival Premiere and Opening Ceremony and who should have worn something else?

    Laetitia Casta

The French actress attended the event wearing a black lace sheer Dolce & Gabbana gown that she paired with black heels and a black bra and panties, which were clearly visible through the long-sleeve gown. She wore her hair in a bun and kept the makeup low-key with basic smokey eyes. Lace over underwear on the red carpet is nothing new, but it also isn't particularly classy at a formal event. She gets the prize for the worst look at the event.

    Kate Hudson

Hey Laetitia, take notes! On the red carpet, Kate wore an absolutely stunning nude Atelier Versace body-hugging gown that was embellished with crystals from top-to-bottom and shimmered as she made her way through the event. Her hair was in a wavy up-do and she finished off the look with dangling jeweled earrings and a gorgeous clutch. The entire look, from her hair to her heels, was sheer perfection and the best look at the event. On her arm for the evening was her fiance, Matt Bellamy.

    Violante Placido

The Italian actress looked red hot in her red strapless Alberta Ferretti gown that had a tied detailing over her left hip. The fabric flowed beautifully on her and hid a thigh-high leg slit well until she wanted to display an extra dose of sexiness. She finished off the look with red strappy heels, dangling jeweled earrings, a bracelet and a red clutch. Her chin-length hair was down, and while it looked alright, it would have been better if it was pinned back.

    Isabella Ferrari

We're not a fan of this look at all. Wearing a gray and gold Atelier Versace bustier dress that had a lace overlay, the Italian actress missed the mark with her fashion pick. It looked like she was trying way too hard. For some strange reason, she also went with a braided up-do instead of a sleek style. At least the jeweled bracelet and earrings were nice.

Who are your picks for the best and worst dressed at the event?
