NEW YORK (AP) — Jon Robin Baitz's play "Other Desert Cities" is making the jump to Broadway and has lured a few new actresses to leap aboard — Rachel Griffiths and Judith Light.
Griffiths, who was on the TV series "Brothers & Sisters" and "Six Feet Under," and Light, who earned a Tony Award nomination for playing Vince Lombardi's wife in "Lombardi," will join the five-person cast, producers said Thursday.
They will join Stockard Channing, Stacy Keach and Thomas Sadoski — all reprising their off-Broadway roles — to portray a dysfunctional family wrestling with a deep secret.
"Other Desert Cities" won rave reviews this fall at Lincoln Center Theater. It won the Outer Critics Circle Award for outstanding off-Broadway play and was nominated for multiple Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards.
Griffiths, making her Broadway debut, will replace Elizabeth Marvel on Broadway, while Light will be replacing Linda Lavin. The Broadway production will again be under the direction of Joe Mantello, who helmed "Wicked" and was nominated for a lead acting Tony Award for "The Normal Heart."
"Other Desert Cities" is scheduled to begin preview performances at the Booth Theater on Oct. 12 and officially open on Nov. 3.
