It's over for singer Ashlee Simpson and her actor beau Vincent Piazza. After more than a year together, Ashlee and the "Boardwalk Empire" actor have called it quits because the distance proved to be too much. "There was no bad blood and no third party involved," said a source. "It was honestly just a long distance relationship and it became too hard to make it work. It's not necessarily forever and they could get back together. Nobody is to blame. Just the distance." Ashlee began dating Vincent before her divorce from rocker Pete Wentz was finalized a little more than one year ago. So far, 2012 has been an up-and-down year for the pop star. Here is a look at some of the other things she's been up to this year.
Her parents split
Ashlee's sister Jessica welcomed a child earlier this year, but it hasn't all been great news for her family. After 35 years of marriage, Ashlee's parents announced that they were getting divorced in October. "It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved," said a rep for Joe and Tina Simpson. "Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time." The folks were famously involved in the careers of their daughters. Not only did Joe manage both Jessica and Ashley, but he and his wife frequently appeared on a pair of reality shows that featured the girls.
Her fourth album is nearing its release
The 28-year-old singer can always rely on work as she goes through another struggle in personal life. The release of Ashlee's first studio album since 2008 is coming soon. After more than a year in development, the singer recently revealed the first single on her website. That's a sure sign that the full album isn't far away. According to the singer, this is one that she's very excited about. "I'm really proud of the sounds, and I'm really excited for it to be an artistic venture," she said this past summer. "The sound is a little soulful, a little electronic."
She has a movie coming out
Music might be her bread and butter, but Ashlee is no slouch when it comes to acting. She has had recurring roles on "7th Heaven" and "Melrose Place" in the past, but she will soon turn her attention to the big screen. She will co-star with Matt Dillon and Elijah Wood in the 2013 film "Pawn Shop Chronicles." Details about her role are scarce, but Ashlee seems excited about the movie's prospects. It's a really rad movie, it's got a really cool style," she said. "I think people will be shocked. It's going to be fun for everyone to check it out."
