The Artist was the big winner at Saturday's Independent Spirit Awards with four wins, including Best Feature.

In what might be a portent of Sunday's Academy Awards, Jean Dujardin took home to the trophy for Best Male Lead for his portrayal of Hollywood silent era star George Valentin. The French actor recently won a BAFTA, Cannes Film Festival award, SAG and Golden Globe for the role.

Michelle Williams won in the Best Female Lead category for her role as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn.

"I first came to the Independent Spirit Awards 10 years ago and I wore my own clothes back then, which were not very good, and I cut my own hair, which was also not very good, but I still remember the feeling that in this room, unlike others, that it was OK — possibly even preferred," Williams, who's also up for an Oscar, said on stage. "Thank you for supporting me and welcoming me and making me feel like home in this room and in this community all the way back then and now."
