Are David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson a couple?

Now the truth really is out there. After reports surfaced earlier this week that “X Files” stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were a couple and even secretly living together in Los Angeles following news on Tuesday that she and her longtime partner had called it quits, it seems fans will not get their wish. “It is not true,” a spokesperson for Duchovny, who split from wife Tea Leoni last year, told Celebuzz, adding that they have been close friends for years.

Anderson, 44, announced that she and her boyfriend of six years, Mark Griffiths, split after a puzzling interview she gave recently to The Sunday Times. When the reporter asked her if she had a “partner at the moment,” the actress responded, “Um … yes … um …” After a long pause, she blurted out, “Say yes.” When the interviewer pressed further and asked if it was Griffiths or someone new, she once again gave a strange response. “Um, no, no. Why do you ask me?” while avoiding eye contact.

In January, the gossip site CrazyDaysandNights.com “revealed” a blind item that Duchovny, 52, and Anderson, who played FBI agents Mulder and Scully for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002 and starred in a 2008 “X-Files” movie, were shacking up at his home in L.A. There has even been speculation that Anderson’s youngest son, Felix, is Duchovny’s. The 3-year-old was conceived during the filming of “X-Files: I Want to Believe,” and fans of the series thought his name was a hint at his paternity since it spells out “X-File” when the letters are rearranged.
