Amy Poehler Says Goodbye To 'Saturday Night Live'

NEW YORK, New York -- Just one week after making her "Saturday Night Live" return, following a six-week hiatus to give birth to her first child, Amy Poehler signed off for good on this weekend's "SNL."

Poehler, who has been with the show since 2006, offered a heartfelt goodbye at the end of "Weekend Update," alongside co-anchor Seth Meyers.

"I did just want to take a moment to thank everybody. This is my last show," Poehler announced. "And it has been an amazing experience to be here. To be able to do over 140 shows with my friends and my family has been a dream come true."

As she became visibly choked up, in typical "SNL" fashion, Poehler's emotional moment was interrupted by a gag, as Fred Armisen, who had played New York Governor David Patterson earlier in the sketch, purposely wandered into the shot, largely obstructing Poehler from the camera.

"Anyway, I would like to say thank you to everybody. I love you and I will miss all of you so much," she concluded as she couldn't help but laugh at Armisen, who was still blocking most of the shot.

As the show went to commercial, Poehler and Meyers embraced in a hug behind their "Weekend Update" news desk.

As previously reported, Poehler will now devote her time to NBC's upcoming "Office" spin-off, and will likely star in the new series.

In September, Poehler talked about how hard it would be to leave "SNL" behind.

"It's gonna be really hard -- Boyz II Men hard -- to say goodbye to yesterday," she told the Los Angeles Times. "'SNL' was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down."

Poehler and husband Will Arnett welcomed their first son, Archie, on October 25. Following the birth, Poehler took a break from the show, returning last week to reprise her role as Senator Hillary Clinton.

However, her return proved to be short-lived, as she appeared in two skits in what was, for now, her final episode.

Prior to her final "Weekend Update" sketch, she also appeared in "Bronx Beat," a classic "SNL" skit alongside former series regular-turned-occasional-guest star Maya Rudolph and this week's host Hugh Laurie.
