Planned Parenthood attracted more than $400,000 in donations after the Susan G. Komen Foundation announced plans to pull breast cancer prevention money from the women's health organization.
The stance attracted the furor of supporters, including celebrities.
"I think that women's health is an issue that is close to me, because of my community," former "Ugly Betty" America Ferrerra said at a recent Planned Parenthood luncheon. "We're only as strong as the ability we have to take care of the women who are giving birth and nurturing the next generation."
Other celebrities are getting into the action by expressing their solidarity with Planned Parenthood and proper women's healthcare.
Michael Bloomberg
New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg made a strong statement on Thursday by announcing his intent to donate $250,000 to Planned Parenthood.
"Politics have no place in health care," the billionaire said in a statement Thursday. "Breast cancer screening saves lives and hundreds of thousands of women rely on Planned Parenthood for access to care. We should be helping women access that care, not placing barriers in their way."
Katy Perry
Katy Perry grew up in a very strict Christian household. She revealed in a 2011 Vanity Fair article that her parents wouldn't allow her to say "Dirt Devil" or "deviled eggs." She turned to Planned Parenthood to learn about the birds and the bees.
"Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic," Perry said. "I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there... I didn't know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn't have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control."
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to political causes -- she's campaigned for Barack Obama and even participated in a Planned Parenthood PSA.
"The House passed a bill to eliminate our country's family planning program and to stop Planned Parenthood health centers from receiving any federal money to provide life-saving preventative care. That means no money for cervical cancer screenings and breast exams," she said in the spot that debuted in 2011. "No money for testing and treatment of STDs, not even testing for HIV. No money for birth control . . . For many people, especially those with low incomes, Planned Parenthood is their only source of health care."
Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow is rich enough to spend thousands on cleanses and other health treatments, but she still supports the mission of Planned Parenthood.
"I stand behind Planned Parenthood because of the access they give women to preventive health care, including screening for cancer and STDs," she said in 2011.
