LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Following the public leak of an angry voicemail he left for his then-11-year-old daughter Ireland, Alec Baldwin said he was so devastated, he contemplated taking his own life.

"[I was] very serious ... I spoke to a lot of professionals, who helped me," Alec told Playboy, in a new interview appearing in the upcoming issue, on newsstands June 19. "If I committed suicide, they [Kim Basinger's side] would have considered that a victory. Destroying me was their avowed goal."

And while the infamous 2007 voicemail, in which Alec can be heard calling his daughter a "rude, thoughtless little pig," caused many to raise an eyebrow questioning the actor's treatment of his child, the "30 Rock" star also now says he is considering writing a parenting book.

"It will be ironic for some people, but I'm going to write a parenting book," he told Playboy. "We're at, not a crisis, but an awful place right now in terms of parenting. People are raising their children with the belief that we need to be friends with our children."

As it turns out, Alec may find himself with some free time on his hands sooner than later, as he revealed the end of his run on NBC's "30 Rock" is in sight - and in fact, the end of his acting career as well.

"I'm done in 2012," he said. "In March 2012, I'll wake up and say, 'What am I going to do now? Am I done?' I think I will be done. I may finish a play or something, but I'm retiring at the wrap party."

But if life as an author doesn't pan out for the longtime actor, perhaps a future in politics could be in the fold.

"I'll put it this way. The desire is there; that's one component. The other component is opportunity. If I run for office, my goal is to recognize that government doesn't need to have lower takes, a smaller budget... Government needs to spend money more responsibly," Alec suggested. "The reason I think I would want to run for office and be good at it is, the way all this should be done is overwhelmingly obvious to me. You want business, but you've got to stand up to business."

Although he thinks he could succeed as a political figure, Alec said his desire to run isn't due to the inability of the current Commander In Chief - in fact, it's just the opposite.

"This is the thing that excites me about Barack Obama: he gets that you'll pay now or later. Tell that corporation to drop dead, get out of your state and move someplace where they need jobs so bad they'll sell their souls for short-end money," he added.

So while Alec is ready to embrace the world of politics, one popular cultural phenomenon he wants no part of is Twitter.

"This society is very wired together, and it's the most neurotic a society has ever been. Twitter, all this stuff, I don't view as anything good," Alec added. "Everyone is so hyperaware of what everybody else is doing. Everybody has been convinced their opinion should count. We all need to be spouting opinions."

Lastly, Alec offered advice to anyone looking to break into Hollywood and become a celebrity.

"Don't pay your federal income taxes, get drunk and try to bolt through airport security with a gun in your suitcase, and last but not least, get a DUI and be arrested in Malibu," he noted.

I am going through the same thing in my life, not suicide but a hateful EX who has turned my child against me with lies. I have been fighting this over 2 years now. Women please do not do this to your childs father, you end up hurting the child too.

What a moron. So much BS. Who wants a business to move out of their state???? Yeah, like this will improve the unemployment situation. And writing a parenting book after the way he treated his daughter, insisting they are trying to destroy him...what a joke. He'd fit right in with politicians in the gov't today. If things go the way they're going, we'll be paying fo

He's a very good actor. I could care less about his personal life. ALL actors should stay out of politics.

He's a great actor, but some of the things he says like "you shouldn't be friends with your child" really rub me the wrong way!
