Is Alec Leaving '30 Rock?' - UPDATE
UPDATE: Alec Baldwin has clarified his Tweet, telling The AP on April 16 that he'll finish out the seventh season of 30 Rock (season six is currently airing), but that the show is slated to end next year. Adding that NBC needs to redo its lineup in order to get out of ratings purgatory.
Alec Baldwin has spent the last few days sending cranky tweets about a real-life alleged stalker as well as complaints about the media "stalking" him and his new fiancée. But is a new tweet an unofficial announcement that the star is leaving NBC's 30 Rock after a six-year run?
"I think I'm leaving NBC just in time," the star said in a message posted Wednesday to Twitter.
That tweet followed a previous post in which Baldwin expressed frustration over a television crew that he said showed up outside his New York City apartment on Wednesday. "I haven't appeared on the Today Show in many years. But did they have to camp outside my apt?" He added: "No one from NBC contacted me until the Today Show arrived at my apt."
Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stalking Alec Baldwin
It was reported in January that NBC had extended Baldwin's 30 Rock contract into next season, but the star confided to The Associated Press last October that he felt his role as crazed corporate executive Jack Donaghy was drawing to a close. "I really do want to move on to other things," Baldwin said at the time.
A source close to the actor tells ET that Baldwin does not plan to leave 30 Rock. So could Baldwin's tweet indicate that the ratings-challenged show is actually being canceled after this season?
Baldwin made headlines earlier this week when a woman was arrested for allegedly stalking him outside his New York City apartment. An NYPD spokesman said that the woman -- 40-year-old Genevieve Sabourin -- allegedly showed up at the actor's home in Greenwich Village but the actor was not home at the time. A building worker notified him that Sabourin was there, and Baldwin called police.
The 54-year-old Baldwin -- who recently got engaged to his 27-year-old yoga instructor girlfriend Hilaria Thomas -- reportedly acknowledged to police that he met Sabourin years ago and that she has recently been sending him emails and texts professing her love for him.
