Adele is one of the most nominated performers at the 2012 Grammy Awards. Between all of the honors and the fact that she is going to perform at the show we should see a lot of her at the event. It has been an interesting week for the British singer. Fashion mogul Karl Lagerfeld recently described her as being too fat. There is no way to sugarcoat that shot but the pop star can end the week on a strong note with some Grammy wins. At just 23 years old, she has a shot to become one of the youngest to ever win the award for the top album of the year. Here is a look at the five youngest artists to win that honor.
Taylor Swift
Swift is the youngest artist to ever win the Album of the Year Award. At just 20 she wasn't even legally allowed to enjoy a celebratory glass of champagne. She beat out a couple of superstar ladies in Beyonce and Lady Gaga to win the award in 2010 for her album "Fearless." The charming young singer sealed her legacy as one of the biggest cross-over country stars in the music world.
Alanis Morissette
Morissette gave the world one of the most popular high school angst albums ever with "Jagged Little Pill." She also ushered in a new generation of female alternative singers. Not surprisingly, the grunge beauty dominated the Grammy awards in 1996. She was only 21 years old when she took home the prized Album of the Year trophy.
Barbara Streisand
Babs held the title of youngest Album of the Year winner for more than 30 years. The first lady of pop and contemporary music was only 21 when she won for her self-title album in 1964. Since that time Babs has added a ton of hardware to her trophy case. She is one of the few stars out there that can claim an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Still going strong, the legendary performer is nominated in 2012 for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Stevie Wonder
We shouldn't be surprised to see Stevie on this list. With 22 Grammys he is the most decorated male artist in history. In 1974 he won the Album of the Year award at just 22 for "Innervisions." The versatile musician is a fixture at the Grammy awards. He has won in each decade since the 1970s.
Lauryn Hill
Hill rose to fame as a member of The Fugees. Like the other two performers in that group she launched a strong solo career. At just 23 years old the R&B star picked up five awards and managed to upset Madonna to win the Album of the Year award. At the time she set a record for women by taking home five total awards.
