LOS ANGELES (AP) — Court records show actor Gary Busey has filed for bankruptcy and is listing more than $500,000 in estimated personal debts.

Busey's filing on Tuesday in Los Angeles provides few details but includes more than a dozen potential creditors.

The actor and reality show star does not state a reason for the filing. His manager Ron Sampson wrote in a statement the filing provides Busey "a new and clear path" to personal and career success.

The filing states the 67-year-old has less than $50,000 in assets.

Busey has starred in numerous films including "Point Break" and "Lethal Weapon" but has in recent years appeared more on reality shows such as "Celebrity Apprentice."

The filing was first reported Wednesday by celebrity website TMZ.

If these stars would stop spending millions on mansions, they wouldn't be in debt. It's beyond me to comprehend why anyone would need 10 bedrooms for two people. Not to say this is why he is filing. Just saying.

Linda...I couldn't have said it better!..Right on the money...I've been saying this for years...I'm in the music and radio broadcasting business...and I just could never understand how these folks just spend and spend...fame just doesn't last forever for most.....same thing with out Sports Stars... nice job, Linda.. :-)

They buy them to show off to their friends and satisfy their huge egos.

Ummm....Linda.....more likely the money he spent on the stuff that went up his nose and into his veins that did him in. A good strong addiction can cost you half a million dollars a year if you're hooked on the good stuff...just sayin. The huge house was more than likely one of the few good things he spent money on.

"His manager Ron Sampson wrote in a statement the filing provides Busey "a new and clear path" to personal and career success." So ... walking away from responsibility is a path to personal and career success??? Sounds to me like this manager could be one of the reasons that Gary is in the pits.

Right on, Michael! A Democrat taken down by an economy destroyed by Repbulicans, who now in a treasonous act beyond any measure will not work toward a recovery with our duly-elected president--unlike the Republican president who caused this mess.

As for the sanctimonious Mrs. Anderson, when I was laid off more than three years ago, the first thing I did was call my creditors for help in restructuring my debt. Not forgiving it--just restructuring it so I could fully service it while trying to regroup after being caught in a 20% RIF at my former company. They all refused--refused to help me pay them back 100% of what I owed. I warned them about my circumstances and that if they didn't restructure the debt then, they likely wouldn't be paid back in full. I couldn't have been any more responsible, but the banks knew better-- right up until last year when they took 25 cents on the dollar from me. And they're lucky they got that, because my attorney said I could file Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

So my point is, get off yuur high and mighty horse when you don't know someone else's circumstances.

All athletes and celebrities take note: When you make that first million, park it somewhere and forget about it....Then towards the end of your career, after you've made millions more but spent it all, you'll still have that first million, plus interest, in an emergency fund....

I don't believe that he only has 50,000 in assets. He still lives in Malibu and it is not uncommon for these people to hide assets in other family members name to get out from under something he just doesn't want to pay. Can we really take the word of Gary Busey? Come on, consider the source here.
