With college graduation season just around the corner, plenty of big-name celebrities have been tapped to deliver commencement speeches. From a talk show queen to a comedy king, here's a look at who's delivering speeches at college graduations this year:
The actor and comedian will deliver the keynote address at the Princeton University's Class Day ceremony in June. According to the Daily Princetonian, Carell had long been on a wish list for the Ivy League school's Class Day speaker, but this year the funnyman has a relative who's a current member of the Class of 2012 , so he accepted the invite.
The OWN head honcho is slated to deliver the commencement address at Spelman College in Atlanta. According to Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Oprah received an honorary degree from the school in 1993 and at this year's ceremony she will receive the college's National Community Service Award.
The iconic broadcast journalist and "View" host will address the graduating Yale College Class of 2012 . An email to Yale seniors touted the Award winning journalist's achievements, saying, "She has arguably interviewed more statesmen and stars than any journalist in history. The ABC News correspondent is so well-known that she is listed in the American Heritage Dictionary."
Oprah's favorite doctor (and ours too!) will pay a visit to his alma mater on May 13. The University of Pennsylvania MBA and Perelman School of Medicine alumnus will speak at the business school's MBA graduation ceremony.
The man behind iconic TV series' such as "Happy Days" and "The Odd Couple" will speak at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. In addition to addressing Lafayette's graduating class, the famed writer-director will be awarded an honorary degree from the school. Marshall was recently inducted into the NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
Martha Stewart's alma mater will be rolling out the red carpet for President Barack Obama, who will deliver the keynote address at Barnard College's 120th Commencement ceremony in May. The President of the United States will address 600 members of the Class of 2012 before receiving the New York school's highest honor, the Barnard Medal of Distinction.
Talk about a gleeful graduation! The "Glee" star will be the speaker at Smith College's 134th commencement ceremony, where she will receive an honorary degree. Lynch has a personal connection to the school; she wed Smith College alum Dr. Lara Embry in 2010, and according to The Sophian the couple even took their wedding photos on the Smith campus.
University of Virginia Class of '79 alum Katie Couric will deliver her alma mater's commencement address this year. In a press release from the university, the ABC News anchor and future talk show host ("Katie" premieres this fall) said, "Although I've delivered quite a few commencement addresses, I consider it a special honor to be invited by U.Va. to speak at Final Exercises. My walk down the Lawn was such a memorable day for me, and I can't wait to share the experience with the class of 2012."
