The "50 Shades of Grey" movie has sparked tons of speculation about who will be cast as BDSM-practicing couple Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and it recently looked like fans' fantasies about who should play Fifty were about to fizzle out when author E. L. James' husband said that Ryan Gosling had won the role.
During a recent interview, Niall Leonard said that "last he heard" the "Hey girl" guy was set to seduce sex slave Ana in the movie. Leonard also made sure to point out that he's nothing like whip-wielding Christian, lest ladies think that James based the character on him.
However, according to Rumor Fix, James recently took to Twitter to deny the rumors by writing, "ALL CASTING NEWS NOT TRUE. ALL ARE RUMORS AT THE MOMENT. YES, SHOUTY CAPITALS. GRRR …"
This tweet looks like bad news for poor Leonard, but it is excellent news for all the Fifty fans who would like to see someone else play Christian.
"American Psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis is one fan who has picked out a different favorite for the part - porn star James Deen.
Before James tweeted that all current casting rumors were false, Ellis tweeted this: "Just got inside information that James Deen is actually in the running to play Christian in ' Fifty Shades of Grey ' with EL James support."
However, Movieline speculates that Ellis might just be trying to connect Deen's name to the "50 Shades of Grey" to build buzz for "The Canyons." Ellis wrote the screenplay for the mainstream movie, which stars Deen and Lindsay Lohan.
As an adult movie star, Deen would have no problem filming racy sex scenes, but "50 Shades" fans seem to be rooting for a different Christian.
Last month Ellis caused a Twitter firestorm by claiming that "White Collar" actor Matt Bomer can't play Christian Grey because he's gay, but fans have certainly shown that they disagree with the writer - a fan-made trailer for the "50 Shades" movie that stars Matt and "Gilmore Girls" actress Alexis Bledel has over 1.4 million views on YouTube. And it doesn't even use sex to sell Matt as the perfect Christian -- with no handcuffs, lingerie, or spankings, it turns "50 Shades" into a PG-13 movie instead of a raunchy rated-R romp.
So which guy can you picture as Mr. Grey - Gosling, Bomer, or Deen? Sound off in the comments!
