The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live on February 12 and it's causing many to reminisce about past Grammy ceremonies - who won, what they wore and who they were dating. Let's go back an entire decade to 2002 when Fat Joe and Ashanti were asking "What's Luv?," Avril Lavigne was mad about things being "Complicated" and Shakira was shaking her hips "Whenever, Wherever." It's incredible how much celebs can change over a decade, but you might not realize just how much until you do a little comparison between the 44th Annual Grammy Awards and now.
Years before Britney shaved her head and just a year before she kissed Madonna on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards, the pop diva presented with Matthew Perry at the 2002 Grammys. Although the long red open-back gown is beautiful, the hair looks like she went into perm overload and tried to contain it by putting it up. She was dating Justin Timberlake at the time, but the pair split up in spring of the same year. After a marriage to a friend that lasted 55-hours, then getting married and divorced to Kevin Federline and having two kids with him, she finally seems to be on the right track and is now engaged to Jason Trawick.
Alicia was all over the airwaves in 2001, and after the 2002 Grammys, she likely skipped all the way home after winning five of the six categories she was nominated in. The talented singer and musician won Song of the Year for "Fallin," Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best R&B Song for "Fallin," and Best R&B Album. Although she was dating someone at the time, she refused to acknowledge who he was. They later broke up, and in 2009 she started dating hip hop producer Swizz Beatz. The couple married in 2010 and in the same year welcomed their first child, Egypt Daoud Dean.
The diva sexed it up on stage at the 2002 Grammys when she performed "Lady Marmalade" alongside Mya, Lil Kim and Pink. Many still consider it one of the most memorable Grammy moments. The song was everywhere in 2001, and in 2002 the four ladies walked away with Grammy awards for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. She married Jordan Bratman in 2005, they had a baby together in 2008 and in 2010 they split. Although she started a new romance with Matthew Rutler in 2011 and was already part of the popular show "The Voice," Christina had some bumpy moments that year when she was arrested for public intoxication and screwed up the lyrics to the National Anthem at the Superbowl.
At the 2002 Grammys, Nelly beat out Janet Jackson, Faith Hill, Sade and Lucinda Williams to win the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award for "I'm Like a Bird." She wore a stunning white strapless Georgio Armani dress and had her hair in an updo. Although her second album bombed, her third album "Loose" became a hit in 2006. In 2003, the Portuguese beauty had a baby with then-boyfriend, Jasper Gahunia. They broke up in 2005, but has been married Demacio Castellon since 2008.
In 2001, Janet's song "All For You" could be heard all over the airwaves and in clubs, and at the 2002 Grammys she won for Best Dance Recording. That same year she started dating Jermaine Dupri. Since then, she's had a wardrobe malfunction at the Superbowl, lost a lot of weight, dealt with the death of her brother Michael, and split from long-time love Jermaine, but in 2010 she started dating Wissam Al Mana and the pair is still together.
