Miley Cyrus On Provocative Vanity Fair Photos: 'I Feel So Embarrassed'
By Access HollywoodApril 28, 2008, 9:59 am PDTLOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Miley Cyrus is blasting back after seeing photos of herself where the Disney star appears clothed in only a sheet for an upcoming issue of Vanity Fair.
The "Hannah Montana" star posed for renowned photographer, Annie Leibovitz, in photographs the 15-year-old thought were going to be "artistic" in nature, Miley said.

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about," Miley said in statement released to Access Hollywood.
Though Miley appears clothed in only a sheet in the photos, a source close to the singer told People, that Miley was not nude.

"The photo suggests that she is [naked], but she is not. She is covered by a sheet, and beneath the sheet she is clothed. Originally, she was in a flesh-colored tank top but was asked to remove it," the source said.
However, it appears Miley isn't the only one upset with the racy photographs.

"Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines," a rep for The Disney Channel, the network which airs Miley's hit show, told Access.
Vanity Fair told Access though Miley and her parents did not have photo approval, they saw the photos right after they were taken and were pleased with them.

"Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley," Vanity Fair said in a statement to Access. "In fact, when Bruce Handy (who wrote the article the photos appear with) interviewed Miley, he asked her about the photo and she was very cheerful about it and thought it was perfectly fine."
On Monday, Annie Leibovitz defended her photographs.

"I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it. The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I think it is very beautiful," Leibovitz said in a statement to Access.
