LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Actor Gary Dourdan has been charged with three felony drug possession counts following his arrest in Palm Springs, just over a week ago, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Authorities arrested the departing "CSI" actor at 5:12 AM on Monday, April 28, after a patrol officer in Palm Springs, allegedly found him asleep behind the wheel of a car, which was parked facing the wrong way.

When the officer approached the vehicle, Dourdan (whose real name is Robert Gary Durdin) was allegedly found "disoriented and possibly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs," local police previously told Access.

Upon searching the vehicle, police claim the officer "subsequently located suspected cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, miscellaneous prescription drugs, and paraphernalia."

Dourdan has now been charged as a result of the incident with three felonies for possession of a controlled substance, one for each of the following drugs: cocaine, ecstasy and heroin.

"Obviously I am embarrassed to find myself in this situation, and I am profoundly grateful to everyone for their support," Dourdan said in a statement to Access Hollywood earlier today. "I have complete confidence in and respect for the justice system and will cooperate fully with any investigation."

He faces probation if convicted on the counts. Probation could include a drug treatment program, following which the charges might be dismissed, authorities confirmed to Access.

Hours after his arrest, Dourdan was released on $5,000 bail.

Last weekend, he issued a statement to Access Hollywood over the incident and claimed that the officer believed the drugs found in the car were not his.

"I am blessed that the Sgt. realized that the luggage carrying whatever they found was not mine and that my tests have been coming back negative," Dourdan's said in an e-mail to Access. "I've been happy to cooperate in any way to clear myself and go on with my blessed life."

Dourdan also offered his apologies to his fans, in the message to Access.

"I am so sorry to all my fans, especially the young ones, like Taylor Swift, who I should've been supporting with my daughter instead of driving tired in the desert," he wrote. "I am planning events to get the word out that you don't need a bunch of nasty chemicals to have a good time. Just good friends, family, good music and a good honest spirit full of faith."

Dourdan had been expected to present teen country sensation Swift an award at Hollywood Life Magazine's 10th Annual Young Hollywood Awards, last Sunday, as "CSI" is a favorite show of the star.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Dourdan is leaving "CSI" this season and will not return to the series in the fall.

How can it be that if he is charged with three felony counts that he gets off with probation. I promise you if it were you or I we would be in prison for a very long time. Just goes to show you, money talks.

How did the drugs get in his car, whose were they, if they were not his? I am a little confused at to his lack of knowledge about the drugs.

You know I really reall like him as an actor. I hate to see a good actor fall prey to drugs. I hope it turns out to not be true.
