NEW YORK - The founder of an organization that honored Dina Lohan as a "Top Mom" says things "spun out of control" when the media focused all its attention on the tabloid magnet.

Mingling Moms, a networking group for Long Island mothers, celebrated Lindsay Lohan's mom and others with famous children Tuesday night at its "Girls' Night Out" party at Carlyle on the Green in Farmingdale, N.Y.

"It just spun out of control," Mingling Moms president Erica Logiudice told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "The press is welcome to be there — I mean, we want it to be out there. But what they did was they kept badgering me, 'Why Dina Lohan? Why Dina Lohan?'"

Logiudice said Lohan made the cut in an online survey asking voters to select Long Island's top 20 moms of celebrities. The moms of Alec Baldwin, Natalie Portman and Mariah Carey were also nominated.

Lohan was swarmed by reporters at Tuesday's event. The celebrity Web site TMZ posted video of Lohan with the headline "Dina Lohan Massacres Mother's Day." When asked what advice she's given her actress-daughter Lindsay, Lohan responded: "Just to stay yourself and just to be honest. ... And if you do something, we're all imperfect, and if you make a mistake, you'll make up for it."

Lohan's mothering skills have been criticized by everyone from Rosie O'Donnell to celeb blogger Perez Hilton. The Merrick, N.Y., resident has been blamed for her daughter Lindsay's public missteps, which included a stint in a Utah rehab after two arrests last summer on drunken driving and cocaine charges.

"Dina was lovely, she was nice, we were glad she was there," said Logiudice, who formed Mingling Moms six years ago.

But Logiudice said the attention around Lohan distracted from the true purpose of the event: to bring moms together for a fun time and raise money for breast cancer research. A portion of the proceeds went to the F.A.C.T. foundation, a Long Island-based breast cancer charity.

"This is such a good thing I tried to do, and I worked for so long on it," said Loguidice, who said the organization has been getting hate mail on its Web site. "And to wake up and see all this nonsense, it's just upsetting, you know?"

i just want to add one question here..is it wrong for a rich woman to have a sugar baby?? it's an absolutely extramarital relationship, but more and more services come out on Internet focusing on this kind of relationship, such as S u g a r m o m m a M e e t . c o m . how do you think of such a thing?

The founder of this charity had to know what type of bad rep Dina has, I mean seriously! She gets what she deserves.

I DO NOT THINK SHE DESRVES THE TITLE! There are more MOMS out there worth deserving. I don't care what the issues with her husband is but it sure is true that she does not belong to the top at all! She and her daughter Lindsay are alike.... like mother like daughter. They are both screwed up!!!!!

She was given a title as a TOP MOM?????????????????? She is and always has been a Hollywood Mom....pushing her kids to become famous, and now one is a train wreck/rehab. junkie....she should be proud!

This is the funniest %@!*# I've ever heard. It's like giving Bush the Nobel Peace Prize. Or making Ludacris the Poet Laureate of America.

Dina didn't deserve the award but she's also not responsible for her daughter's addiction or behavior. I ended up on drugs & went to prison, it's not my parents fault. Both my brothers & my sister didn't go that route. That's life. You instill values & morals then hope for the best. Sooner or later outside influences have an i

Souther Lady, I'm just tired of the blame game & being persecuted for the sins my father's didn't commit. Maybe committing the sin would vindicate me in the treatment I receive for simply being white. I don't mind being hated if I earned it. It's the blanket hatred that gets to me. Whites are the trump card to avoid responsibility for Blacks actions

America is full of people who don't know good values. America badly needs responsible parents.
