LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actor Gary Dourdan, best known as a forensics investigator on the hit TV show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," was charged on Wednesday with possession of heroin, cocaine and ecstasy.

The charges stem from the 41-year-actor's April 28 arrest in the desert resort city of Palm Springs, after police found him asleep in the driver's seat of a car shortly before dawn.

The car was parked on the wrong side of the road with the interior light left on. Police said Dourdan appeared disoriented and "possibly under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs" when approached by an officer.

A search of the car turned up cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and various prescription drugs, as well as drug paraphernalia,

He was booked for possession of narcotics and dangerous drugs and jailed for about five hours, then released on $5,000 bail, police said.

Dourdan was charged with one count each of possessing heroin, cocaine and ecstasy. A Riverside County District Attorney's spokeswoman said that if convicted he would likely face probation and be sent to a drug diversion program.

He is due in court for an arraignment on May 28.

A native of Philadelphia, Dourdan got his start on the TV sitcom "A Different World" and later appeared on the cable network series "Soul Food."

He also starred in the 1997 film "Alien: Resurrection" but is best known for his role as forensics investigator Warrick Brown on "CSI," which has ranked as the most watched drama on U.S. television for much of its run.

I find Gary's behavior tragic. You would think that being on a show like CSI and being as educated about drugs as he has to be for his role, that it would be the last thing he would want to do. You would think as nice looking as he is he would not have to do drugs to forget, or be cool or whatever. I guess that is what is meant by beauty is only "skin deep". Open your

Wow. The hottie is now the nottie. I am not pleased. I liked his character and thought he was a stand up guy. Hopefully he'll redeem himself before he becomes another casualty of Hollywood.

I agree, Mommie34. He is a grown man and he made the decision to use drugs. Hopefully, he'll make the smart decision to stop. Best of luck to you, too. (I can't believe he's 41. The man is fine!!)

My image of him is ruined. I can no longer view him on CSI the same way I used to. Why Gary? Why?

I think it is terrible that he uses drugs. I would love to know what is bothering him. I do believe it is a choice. He appears to have it all: he is physically attractive, he is famous and probably wealthy. I hope that he loves himself enough to get help. I will pray that he does, and I hope his loved ones pray for him as well.

I say have him killed off on the show...what a loser...to be soo successful & have all that dope in his car & its stated he probably gets probation! Anybody else would be doing jail time. I'll never think the same of him -maybe he hangs out with AMY Winehole

It is a shame that he is an addict. Unfortunally that is what happends to alot of stars, fame gets to be to much, so they try and excape by turning to drugs and drinking. I am a 19 1/2 yr recovering addict and I know there are many reasons for turning to drugs and drinking. Rehab is one of the many answers for addicts but u also have to look deep inside yourself for the real answers. Best of luck.

Shame???? It isnt a shame... Addiction doesn't need pity.. It is a choice either you use or you don't.. It is that easy. I am a recovering addict of 31/2 years. I choose not to use. Rehab isn't the answer. The answer lies within self........
