Behind bars. - Chelsea Lauren/Getty ImagesWesley Snipes, meet prison life. After failing to file income tax returns for some 10 years, the actor manned up and reported to jail in Pennsylvania today for a three-year sentence.
"The 300 nonviolent inmates live in barracks that feature two-man rooms, daily showers and double-feature movie showings Friday through Sunday.Alas, no NC-17, R or X ratings allowed, which knocks out much ofSnipes' action-heavy repertoire," the Associated Press observes of the bleak, un-Hollywood atmosphere at the Federal Correctional Institution McKean in the small town of Lewis Run.
The "Blade" actor and martial artist -- who owed a whopping $2.7 million in taxes on $13.8 million in income from 1999 to 2001 -- was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of tax evasion in 2008. At his sentencing, he declared: "I am an idealistic, naive, passionate, truth-seeking, spirituallymotivated artist, unschooled in the science of law and finance."
Apparently.
