In Defense of Camille Grammer

Kelsey Grammer continues to publicly slam his most recent ex-wife and the mother of his children. In an interview with CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Monday, Grammer launched into a bitter rant against Camille Grammer, making all sorts of disparaging remarks no doubt intended to soil her reputation further.

"I have to tell you, the 'Real Housewives' was my parting gift to her," he said. "It was my way of saying, 'Look, you always wanted to be famous. Here you go.'"

The blonde Bravo-lebrity "married me because I was Frasier," the actor sniped. He claimed that after 13 years, their marriage was on the outs before "RHOBH" cameras began rolling.

"I remember having one conversation where I said, 'Well, don't worry about it. After the first seaons, you can do the 'Divorced Wives of Beverly Hills' next season," he recalled, adding: "Camille asked for a divorce really almost the first day we were married. If you say you want a divorce enough times, you're going to get one."

Now Camille is no angel (recall: the Howard Stern interview wherein she alleged her ex is a cross dresser) but neither is Kelsey: he more or less threw his wife to the reality-TV wolves, possibly predicting that the show would turn her into a villain; he moved to New York for a Broadway show and began cheating with his now-wife, Kayte Walsh, a flight attendant he married months after filing to divorce Camille; he has threatened to take their son away to live with him in the Big Apple. He has ignored a custody arrangement in which he would take their children to tennis and dance classes.

And now this Piers Morgan hit job. Camille tweeted her reaction, telling a fan: "No, I couldn't watch. I had heard that he was going to be mean and disrespectful."

Meanwhile, Bravo's most-hated housewife is successfully turning her image around, playing her cards right as the Single Woman Jilted By Famous Celebrity Cheater. Monday's "RHOBH" episode featured her making a self-deprecating comment about her dating life ("nobody likes me") and hosting a charity event for cancer. She and her former archnemesis, Kyle Richards, have totally buried the hatchet. Throughout the current season Camille has been making (well-deserved?) passive-agressive jabs toward Kelsey, even mocking his penis size with the zinger: "Big hands, big feet, big disappointment."

Kelsey needs to laugh and move on, like Camille has done. Otherwise she looks like the good guy/mother and he the bad guy/cad. Until he zips his mouth, for his kids' well being too, then we're fully on Team Camille.
