The strange relationship between Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson -- which none of us ever wanted to fully accept as real -- is over.

People reports that the two are no longer dating, though they disappointingly have no other details about the split or what instigated it. Neither rep commented on the story.

The magazine mentions that Johansson was noticeably absent from the Cannes Film Festival, where Penn was promoting his "The Tree of Life." Johansson, who divorced Ryan Reynolds last year, has been in New Mexico filming "The Avengers."

While their relationship may have turned out to be brief, they certainly got their share of headlines out of it: they kicked things off with a flirty, footsie-centric lunch in Los Angeles; jetted to Cabo where they were called "like teenagers in love"; held hands for the first time at no less than the White House Correspondents' Dinner; and they went jogging with Owen Wilson.

Since breaking up with his ex-wife, Cynthia Rodriguez, A-Rod has gone on a steady binge of famous blondes including Kate Hudson (he dumped her, allegedly) and Madonna (she dumped him, allegedly). Apparently, Diaz moved to Miami to be closer to the Yankees player and his two young kids; perhaps she assumed A-Rod was in it for the long haul, hence the "hurt and betrayed." Perhaps she finally changed her mind about marriage, deciding he was It. In any case, breakups suck.

Last night on Jimmy Kimmel, the "Saturday Night Live" star -- perhaps testing some material for his hosting gig Sunday night at the MTV Movie Awards -- chatted with Kimmel about the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game, at which Justin Bieber was named the game's MVP.

Kimmel asked Sudeikis if he trash talked Bieber, who was on the opposite team, which led to the following exchange.

Sudeikis: "Trash talk him? A little bit. Just a little bit. I didn't even know it was him for the first two quarters, I thought it was a Make-A-Wish situation."
Kimmel: "You were trash talking a Make-A-Wish kid?"
Sudeikis: "Yeah, easy target."

Indicating that he has a sense of humor, Bieber tweeted a link to the YouTube video of Sudeikis and Kimmel's chat with the comment "thanks for making my wish happen." If only all celebrities were this good-natured about comedians' jabs.

Wilde may or may not be hangin' with Mr. Cooper. - Getty ImagesWhile it's not unusual for celebrities to refute rumors about them, it's less common for them to target specific outlets.

Us Weekly ran a report today that Francophile Bradley Cooper and newly single Olivia Wilde are "definitely hooking up."

The item went on to cite an "insider" who claimed that, at a recent party for the "Hangover II," Wilde "acted jealous when other girls came up to him."

It continued: "She thought going with Bradley would make [rumored fling] JT jealous."

Well, Wilde isn't having it, tweeting this afternoon. "I think Us Weekly has the same sources who promised us WMDs in Iraq."

At least she has a sense of humor about it; however, not to be sticklers or anything, we will note she didn't actually deny the report directly.

This is an ad for Revlon featuring Jessica Biel and Pharrell Williams that was, inexplicably, directed by Darren Aronofsky.

It's not that that Jessica and Pharrell don't look gorgeous (they do) or that it's filmed badly or anything (it's not), it just seems really strange that this was an ad that Aronofsky was excited enough to take on, right? Either they offered him a ton of money or else perhaps he was looking for a "Black Swan" rebound that also involved beautiful women and mirrors?

Those are strict requirements. We're pretty sure there's only one person in the whole wide world who can match them. That person might not want to take the job. But wait, there are some perks: they'd get paid a salary of 60,000 pounds for 2-4 hours of work per day. They'd get a free flat in West London, and the opportunity to travel around the world with the whole family. (Yes, we so would. But first, we need to work on the "perfect" part.)

Just another day in La Vida Lohan. - Getty ImagesIt's beginning to seem that it's impossible for Lindsay Lohan, even when she's under house arrest and can't leave her home, to go a week without causing some kind of stir.

Lohan, who began serving her 35 days of house arrest last week, received a visit from probation officials on Tuesday when the electronic ankle monitor she is forced to wear went off.

The Los Angeles Times says it's unclear why exactly the alarm was sounded, but, according to the paper, Lohan was, amusingly, "watching her 3-D TV, browsing scripts and posing for photographs for the tabloids on her rooftop" when the officials arrived.

"They came as part of standard procedure to make sure the monitoring equipment was working properly," her rep Steve Honig told the Times.

RadarOnline.com reports that the bracelet likely malfunctioned and that she didn't violate the court order which requires her to stay at her home. TMZ says Lohan was given a new ankle bracelet and "that was that."
