Vogue Names Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Best-Dressed Sisters

While a lot of us continue to think of twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as fashion disasters -- the term "bag lady" has often been used to describe their ensembles -- the truth is that they're racking up some serious cred in the industry. In addition to their various clothing lines, including the high-end The Row, the two have just been named the best-dressed sisters in Vogue magazine's special Best Dressed issue.

The 25-year-old style mavens managed to land higher on the list than Kate and Pippa Middleton, Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Dakota and Elle Fanning, and Rooney and Kate Mara. The magazine even muses that there's not any one word to accurately describe the twins' fashion sense.

"What can definitely be said is that minimalist, nuanced, maximalist, iconic, chic, cool, instinctive, and creative don't do justice to how Ashley and Mary-Kate have long put themselves together, in a manner that is constantly unique, inspiring, and ever evolving," writer Mark Holgate explains. "Until we are linguistically endowed with a sufficient term, original will have to do."

The pint-sized stars confess to the fashion bible that what's now considered their look was born out of necessity when the Los Angeles natives moved to New York City to attend NYU in 2004. "We were called eccentric and eclectic," Vogue quoted both of them as saying. "But we were just two California girls trying to dress for the New York winter."
