One year ago, the 30-year-old gave a candid interview about relationships, saying she had never been in love and blamed it on her inability to let someone get close enough to her. Well, what a difference a year makes. She's since fallen hard for Brandon Blackstock — and she's wearing her heart on her sleeve. The head-over-heels singer now says she's found a gem in her talent manager beau and she's not going to let him get away.
During an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show, Clarkson shared the story about how she met Blackstock, who is the 35-year-old son of Clarkson's manager and the stepson of Reba McEntire. At the time he was married, but she was instantly attracted to him. "We met years ago when I was working with Rascal Flatts, and he used to tour manage with them," she explained. "I didn't really didn't know he was [my manager's] son and it was kind of weird. I was like, 'Dude, I gotta know that guy.' We were just in a room together, and then he came up and said he was from the same hometown as me and I was like, 'Oh we're so getting married.' I was so that girl. When he became single, I was on the prowl."
Although they both have divorce in their families — and he himself is now divorced and raising two children with his ex-wife — Clarkson says marriage is definitely in the cards for them ... one day. "It's weird how life kind of puts you in certain situations," she said. "We're taking it slow, and we're enjoying each other. I'm from a family of broken marriages, but we will definitely break that trend one day."
The "Duets" star, who has a new album of greatest hits coming out next month, says that Blackstock — who manages Blake Shelton — is also inspiring her musically. "Once you finally fall in love with someone and you are so comfortable with them, it makes you more comfortable in your skin," she told Seacrest. "It makes you comfortable as an artist. It makes you more confident. I'm completely head over heels for him — he knows that."
There's no doubt — Clarkson is in love … and she wears it well.
