Katie Holmes on her new Broadway role: ‘Finally I get to yell!’

The notoriously soft-spoken actress, who some would say lost her voice altogether during her marriage to Tom Cruise, appeared at The Greene Space in Manhattan on Thursday to talk up "Dead Accounts," the limited-run Broadway play she'll be appearing in beginning November 3. So what is Suri's mom looking forward to the most about her new role? Yelling.

Holmes is tackling the role of Lorna, whose world is turned upside down when her brother, played by Broadway vet Norbert Leo Butz, returns to their hometown for a surprise reunion. The wrinkle? He may be responsible for the theft of $27 million. The 33-year-old actress' character has a feisty side, which the mild mannered Toledo, Ohio, native is more than excited to tackle.

"Finally I get to yell!" Holmes said of her highly-anticipated role. "What I really loved about this character was she's strong underneath it all. I like her values, I like that she's trying to figure it all out and really cares for her family."

Holmes playfully showed a fierce side, clenching her fists (Jackson Lee/Splash News)Trying to figure it all out and caring for her family seem to be two traits Holmes has in common with her character. Since her quickie divorce from Cruise over the summer, the former "Dawson's Creek" star has been making a new life with 6-year-old Suri in Manhattan. Mother and daughter are seen together almost daily doing very routine, run-of-the-mill things like your average New Yorkers, which is in direct contrast to her life as Mrs. Tom Cruise. Gone are Suri's designer handbags and high heels; these days the little girl skips into school wearing her Land's End uniform. Holmes also cabs it all over Manhattan, forgoing the multi-car convoy she and Cruise took everywhere.

Holmes has long been inspired by the lights on Broadway. In 2008 she made her debut on the Great White Way in Arthur Miller's drama "All My Sons." In a new promo for "Dead Accounts," the actress giggles while talking about her love of theater. "I'm just really thrilled," she says of being back. "You're in your dressing room and they say, 'It's Saturday night on Broadway!' It's just so exciting."
