A photo of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin together is as rare as a Big Foot sighting. But on Monday night, it happened — a pic was taken of the married couple, that is — and with a guest appearance by Cameron Diaz, no less. The trio bonded over sushi and cocktails at Sugarfish in Brentwood, California, for about an hour before heading out together. The "Bad Teacher" actress had her arm around her gal pal's neck as the Coldplay singer walked next to them.
So what could Paltrow and Diaz -- who both wore gray shirts with jeans for their dinner date -- have in common? Besides their shared rapping abilities (the two rhymed and beat-boxed in a video message to their friend, Chelsea Handler, last week), they're both, yes, blond, 40-year-old actresses who have dated their fair share of Hollywood's leading men … but never the same one.
According to Us Weekly, the "Iron Man" actress has been helping Diaz cope with the single life after failed romances with Diddy, Alex Rodriguez, and model (and Jennifer Aniston ex) Paul Sculfor in the years since she split with her longtime beau, the newly married Justin Timberlake. "Gwyneth is a nurturer," a source told the mag. "Cameron is bummed about being single, so Gwyneth sees her as a project. She's trying to set her up with guys!"
Or maybe Cameron just wants free Jay-Z concert tickets?
