A few nights ago, I had the privilege of seeing an advance screening of the highly-anticipated new film, "Michael Jackson's This Is It," which was released in theaters nationwide on October 28. As a devoted fan of his music, dancing, and status as a pop culture icon, I was more than hesitant to see him on the big screen. Why?
For starters, his untimely death in June rocked me to the core, and I knew that seeing him in this film would solidify the fact that he was gone. More than that, I was terrified of seeing a frail version of his former superstar self suffering through a grueling concert rehearsal. Let's be honest; reports following his death led everyone to believe that Michael was a drug-addicted mess of a man with an inability to function. I can't begin to tell you how glad I was to find out that wasn't the case. At all.
Relief set in within the first few minutes of the movie and from that point on, I had a wonderful time experiencing his magic all over again. Every note was sung perfectly. Every dance move was popped perfectly. Every person in the theater was in awe.
I could ramble on and on about my love for the King of Pop and this brilliant documentary, which was skillfully directed by award-winning choreographer Kenny Ortega, but I won't. I'll simply encourage you to see the movie. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and, it will take your breath away.
If you still aren't convinced, check out the Yahoo! Movies clip of Michael rehearsing "Human Nature" below. And, if that's still not enough, head here to see the theatrical trailer, a few performances, and a behind-the-scenes montage.
Long live the King!
