    Billie Joe Armstrong and the boys of Green Day are back! Stephanie Cabral/Yahoo! Music It's been over four years since Green Day released "American Idiot," which was a commercial and critical success. "Idiot" debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard charts (their first album to ever do so) and earned the veteran rockers a Grammy for its commentary on post-9/11 American society.

    "21st Century Breakdown" is the band's eighth studio effort and comes out this Friday, May 15. The album's first single -- "Know Your Enemy" -- is a rock anthem that hearkens back to the band's "Dookie" days.

    Yahoo! Music was at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California, last month when the band surprised the audience by playing "Know Your Enemy" and the rest of the "21st Century Breakdown" album. Before the performance, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool talked about the inspiration behind their new songs. Check out their exclusive interview below:
