Oprah Winfrey is the first to interview the family. (Blue Wasp/Splash News)Just weeks after the death of Whitney Houston, her family is breaking their silence and sharing their grief in a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, which will air on her OWN network March 11. In a promotional clip online, the talk show host is shown first meeting with Houston's brother Gary and his wife, Patricia, before embracing Houston's only child, daughter Bobbi Kristina. "The world lost an icon, they lost a mother and a sister," Winfrey says during the preview. And it seems no topic is off limits, even Houston's ex-husband, whom many blame for her dissent into drugs. "As a big brother how did you feel about Bobby Brown?" Winfrey asks Gary.
According to TMZ, the 19-year-old decided to make Winfrey her first interview about her mother's February 11 death because the media queen is a close family friend whom she thinks is "fair and respectful." Bobbi Kristina, who has been living with her grandmother Cissy Houston, is reportedly telling friends that Winfrey "was loyal to my mom, and never did my mother wrong, or made her look bad. She always looked out for my mom." In return, Winfrey has promised to not ask questions that would make the teen look bad — like anything about her own battles with substance abuse, says TMZ.
It's been an especially tough time for Bobbi Kristina, whose relationship with Houston was more like two best friends rather than mother-daughter. Immediately following Houston's February 18 funeral in Newark, New Jersey, the teen caused a scare when she went missing for a few hours. Although it was reported that Bobbi Kristina had snuck off to do drugs, a Houston family spokesperson later told The Daily Beast that she simply "needed some time alone."
