The Situation is seeking help. (David Becker/WireImage)After a lot of back and forth, it seems The Situation really does have, well, a situation. Although he initially denied a TMZ report that he was in an in-patient program for substance abuse, "Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino is now coming clean. In a post on his personal website, he writes, "I want to set the record straight. I have voluntarily taken steps to get control of a prescription medication problem I had due to exhaustion. I have spent the past several weeks getting treatment for this problem and recuperating from my work and appearance schedule. I appreciate my fans support and love you guys."
Following TMZ's original report -- which included a statement from the Situation's personal rep saying he was indeed in treatment -- both the rep and the reality star then denied any issues. The Situation himself tweeted on Tuesday night, "Don't believe everything you read or hear." But on Wednesday, TMZ was at it again, this time claiming eyewitnesses had spotted the reality star at drug treatment center Cirque Lodge in Utah. Soon after, Sorrentino fessed up.
Sorrentino's absence was noticeable at the March 15 "Jersey Shore" finale party on MTV. The rest of the cast members, including pregnant Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, were all on hand to chat about their fifth season at the shore house — except the Sitch. Fans of the show have probably noticed that Sorrentino's personality has changed drastically since the first season two years ago. Last season, while in Italy, he rammed his head into a concrete wall during an unprovoked fight with castmate Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. Around the same time, he was caught by cameras privately practicing martial arts out of paranoia that he was going to be attacked. This past season in Seaside Heights, Sorrentino often segregated himself from the rest of the cast — and then bemoaned the fact he was all alone.
It's unclear if Sorrentino will rejoin his housemates when the sixth season of "Jersey Shore" begins filming this summer. It has already been announced that Snooki will still be appearing on the show, despite the fact that she will be heavily pregnant.
So if the next season of "Jersey Shore" features both a sober Situation and Snooki, will you still watch?
