Octavia Spencer Admits Her Weight Is ‘Not Healthy’

UMMM...who the hell cares she is a great actress. And I pray she wins an Oscar...

I've seen her at that weight for a long time. She's not fat, fat, but losing a couple of pounds won't hurt her and I bet will turn a lot of heads when she does. She looked really good that night.

Octavia should have answered that question with this statement, “My role in this movie and also in other movies is not about my weight. Who I am as an actor is not about my weight, but more about my God given talent to step outside of myself and into the shoes of another. What is important isn't the dress size adorned on the label in the back of this dress, but what is important is what character I play in my movies and how she is received by the audience." That is what Octavia should have said in this interview instead of allowing the media to gage her insecurities by tripping her up with that old weight question. However, she in turned gave a politically correct answer with an awkward look on her face that sounded silly. Yes, she may need to lose weight if she is dealing with a high blood pressure or diabetes that normally plaques overweight people, but that is not the media's concern. That's her issue to deal with and no one else’s. Why does she (and other actors) have to explain to the world why they are fat? The world isn't paying her based on her lbs, but instead we support her because of how believeable she is as an actress. She is right it is a struggle for the overweight and the underweight. Whether it’s a choice or not for either party that lies with that individual person. But if I can borrow a few lines from Martin Luther King...Judge me not on the size of my pants, but the content of my character...That is all that matters for all of us actors and none actors.

I love my size but...I'm only a 10/12. HOWEVER, it causes some health problems so I need to lose about 20lbs... :( I like being thick...but, I'd rather live a longer life thinner than a shorter life thicker...gotta go workout...later...

What is wrong with a woman just being who she is, must we all be skin and bone. I remember the tv show from the fifties: Perry Mason's Barbara hale, would probably be called fat today, she was lovely. Do men really prefer women to be boney or shapely?

You look fine and your choice of clothing is very elegant and beautiful. A beautiful lady. A few pounds lost would not hurt as long as you don't lose too much and look like you are anorexic.

I think she is healthier than the swizzle sticks in Hollyweird

Octavia is such a beautiful woman. I loved her in "The Help." Minnie was such a wonderful person, and boy could she fry chicken. I would much rather see her than these skinny actors that look like skin and bones. Octavia is beautiful inside and out. Can't wait to see her in her next movie!!

Oh Olivia, PUH-LEEEEZE don't buy into the Hollywood "I gotta be thinner" complex. Most of these women look like they are sick and starving. Getting fit and healthy is one thing, but please don't do it to fit into a size 2 dress. You are beautiful, lovely and talented. Proud of you!

Everybody focuses on the women who are overweight. I doubt that she will fall dead of a heart attack any faster than one of those super skinny models will of starvation. Nobody gets concerned when women get too thin. It not really about their health that we worry. It's more about their looks. We want everybody to be thin and beautiful and those that buy into it sometimes get too thin and that is just as bad as too big.

If your not comfortable with your weight then it's time to do something about it. Don't go by these weight charts that doctors have in their in medical offices. They're not right. I am 5.5 in height and my weight is 165 lbs. Earlier in years I thought I would get down to the weight that was shown on a doctors weight chart. I did. I was too skinny. I felt weak. I couldn't stay seated because of the pain of my tail bone tearing through my butt. I realized I was too thin. I put some weight back on and now I feel a whole lot better. People weren't meant to be entirely stick figures... OT

You just wouldn't see people writing a thread like this about a pudgy male actor. Really, who gives a #$%$ about her body size--she is an actress, not a porn star.

Ms. Spencer is a GREAT actress. She always stills the scenes in the movies she is in. Think about "Dinner with Schmucks." If she loses weight, let it be for herself - not for Hollywood.

Well I don't know why ANYONE but her would be concerned about her weight. She is a good actress and was in one of the better movies in a long time. Besides... she is very attractive the way she is.....

But please... saying losing 15 pounds is only taking two good dumps....
