The actress -- who has reportedly been cast as the Hollywood legend in Lifetime's "Liz & Dick" -- has revealed in a new interview that before Taylor's death last year, she received a ring from her, along with a personalized note. "I treasure it," Lohan, 25, told The Daily Mail on Wednesday at a party following her latest court appearance. "It came with this beautiful note, hand-written by Elizabeth Taylor, which was very encouraging about my work -- and that work is something I should concentrate on."
But don't worry, Taylor didn't gift Lohan with a bauble from her infamous $30 million jewelry collection. "It's a costume ring," Lohan clarified. "It has a cognac-colored stone with precious stones set round it. After I was sent it, I put the ring, and the letter, away in a safe place so I wouldn't lose it. But I took them out recently when I was asked to portray her. It's a tiny connection to her."
It's unclear if Taylor, who died last March at the age of 79, was aware at the time that Lohan was vying to play her in a biopic based on her romance with Richard Burton. When the idea was originally floated in July 2010, the "Cleopatra" actress made her feelings known in a series of posts on her Twitter account. "Hold your horses world. I've been hearing all kinds of rumors about someone being cast to play me in a film about Richard and myself. No one is going to play Elizabeth Taylor, but Elizabeth Taylor herself. Not at least until I'm dead, and at the moment I'm having too much fun being alive...and I plan on staying that way."
Now that Lohan has landed the role, she is doing all she can to make sure she gets the iconic actress -- who was a child star like herself -- down pat. Since "Liz and Dick" begins when the two met on the set of 1963's "Cleopatra," Lohan told The Mail that she's watched the film "500 times. OK, I'm exaggerating, but I have watched it dozens of times, and studied her performance in detail. I've also watched 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?'A lot of people felt that film echoed her tumultuous relationship with Richard." The currently blond actress has yet to decide if she'll dye her locks dark or just simply wear a wig, but she will pop in colored contact lenses to match Taylor's violet eyes. Lohan added that she's grateful for the role, her first since a small part in 2010's "Machete." "I like the structure. You have to be there in the morning, so that means you can't go out the night before. I've learnt a lot of lessons, and that's one of them."
