Kris Humphries’ Family Talks About Kim Kardashian

Another day, another development in the soap opera that is the Kardashians' so-called reality. Let me recap: Even if you have never in your life watched "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" -- and be honest, most of us have -- you know by now that Kim Kardashian filed for divorce last week only 72 days after a lavish wedding filmed for a two-part TV special. You've probably even seen her mom and manager Kris Jenner, who's conveniently schilling a book right now, defending her daughter's honor on "Today," "The View," and basically any show that would give her airtime. Well, finally, finally, Kris Humphries' family is fighting back by speaking out on behalf of their son ... and, let me tell you, they are none too impressed with Kim.

Kris' dad, William Humphries, tells Life & Style that contrary to what Ms. Kardashian's camp says, his son was caught off guard by her decision to end the marriage, and even refused to speak to her until she flew to his hometown in Chanhassen, Minnesota, to finalize details of the split. "There was never a discussion about it -- it just came out of nowhere and blindsided Kris," he says. "How could someone do that? Kris was completely surprised. The news was already published before he found out!"

And apparently, Kim, 31, was upset that her ex, 26, publicly insisted he was willing to do anything to make the marriage work, a friend admits to the magazine. "Kris told me that Kim was texting him a lot, but he wouldn't respond," the pal says. "They did speak briefly the day the split was announced -- but only because Kim was apparently pissed that Kris had released his own statement."

The NBA player's aunt, Marcia Evans, pointed out to In Touch that Kris' extended family was left out of the nuptials. The clan found out most details of the ceremony in the press. They even had a Humphries family reunion planned for August 21 -- just one day after the date the then-happy couple chose for their wedding. "Kris didn't even call his grandmother to tell her he was getting engaged," Evans claims. "The Humphries family reunion would have been a great opportunity for the family to meet and greet the new bride … that is if Kris and Kim were serious about each other and about family."

As William explains, though, Kris is weathering the storm of publicity as best he can. "He's hurting, but we're here for him," William reveals. "It's not a nice situation. No matter how you look at it, he's going through a divorce."

Do you feel sorry for Kris?
