Araya Diaz/Wireimage"Breaking Bad" actor Aaron Paul may be a prankster, but he never meant to end up with his own version of "Punk'd" on the local news, he swears!
On Monday night's episode of "Conan," Paul, who was there to promote the final season of his series, which premieres next month, shared a story which involved him pulling one over on his old roommate. (Yes, the star of one of the best shows on television had a roommate up until recently.) The roommate, named David, believed that the world was going to end in 2012, so, in order to "prove him right," Paul tried to convince him that meteorites were slamming into their backyard. The actor and another pal bought some real meteorites from a specialty shop in Santa Monica, California, dug a crater in the yard, filled it with dry ice, and then covered it up with the meteorites before using water to set off "a dry ice bomb."
After David ran outside in his underwear and saw the meteorites in a hole with what looked like boiling water bubbling up , he started panicking, thinking meteorites were indeed falling from the sky. Prank accomplished, right? Well, the whole thing went a step further after the roommate's girlfriend shot some video of the scene and sent it to L.A.'s Fox affiliate. A short time later, Paul says he actually caught the segment on the news after watching a football game.
"[The game] went a little late so they could only show two clips on the news and one of them was this," Paul, 32, explained to O'Brien, to which the host replied in disbelief: "Wait a minute! You weren't even aware? So you're watching the news now and they cut in with news story about the prank you pulled?"
"Yes! I start seeing my footage. I start seeing my backyard with this giant crater boiling. I'm like, 'What the hell is that?" Paul laughed.
Indeed, Fox 11 ran the story with the footage from Paul's yard with a reporter explaining the scene, even noting the water was boiling so much it almost looked like dry ice. Go figure!
