Mick Jagger jokes about Rob Ford crack allegations, mayor laughs it off

Mick Jagger promised not to "crack" a Rob Ford joke while performing in Toronto this weekend, but he gave it to the mayor anyway.

The 69-year-old Rolling Stones front man was performing at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night when he brought up Ford, who is currently squirming under allegations that he was caught smoking crack on video.

“We’re not going to do any jokes tonight about the mayor or anything, OK?,” Jagger told the crowd during the show, according to Canada.com. “It’s too easy. It’s much too easy a target. It’s a bit cheap — cheap shots. So we’re not going to do any of that. We’re going to crack right on with this show now.”

Approximately 20 minutes after that, Jagger also referenced the Globe and Mail's recent story that Doug Ford was a hash peddler in the '80s: “L.A. just elected a new mayor, who promised free medical marijuana. I wonder what the new mayor of Toronto would promise? Free subway tickets?”

The Fords addressed the gig on their Newstalk 1010 radio show, "The City," on Sunday. City councillor Doug Ford, the mayor's brother, said that he was actually in the audience. "[The Stones] said to say 'hello' to you," he quipped to Rob at the 9:10 mark:

But then Doug got serious.

“It’s kind of the pot calling the kettle black to say the least,” he said, presumably in reference to the various Stones' band members' histories with substance abuse. Then he made another crack for Rob's benefit: "I thought you were going to come up on stage with Mick Jagger."

The mayor simply laughed off the incident.

Perhaps Rob Ford will catch the band the next time they are in Toronto -- the Rolling Stones are set to return to the ACC on June 6.
