Penn. (RHS/Splash News)Nearly 25 years after they split, Sean Penn and Madonna reunited on Thursday night … with about 20,000 other people between them. The "Milk" actor attended the Material Girl's concert at L.A.'s Staples Center, which also attracted celeb fans like Nicole Richie, as well as Jessica Alba and Emma Roberts on Wednesday evening. Although photos of the ponytailed 52-year-old standing outside the arena by himself smoking, there were reports that he was seated front and center next to Rita Wilson, the wife of Tom Hanks.
Thursday's concert was not the first time the two superstars have gotten together since their December 1987 split after two years of marriage (their divorce was finalized in 1989). Last February, the two were spotted on the dance floor at her post-Oscars party. In 2007, Penn spoke highly of his ex, despite the fact that she cited his abusive nature and issues with alcohol in her divorce papers.

"She was a phenomenon, but nothing could have told anybody what would happen next," he said. "I describe that marriage as loud. That's how I remember it. I don't recall having a single conversation in four years of marriage. I've talked to her a few times since, and there's a whole person there. I just didn't know it. I was just living in my own head. Who was it that said 'Men are vain, particularly young men'? That was me, and I liked to drink a lot."
