Kingston told TMZ cameras over the weekend that the gift was just another perk of his close ties to the Biebs. "When you're best friends with one of the biggest artists in the world, you get all different types of gifts. And this is one of them," Kingston bragged, adding that Bieber planned to get a newer model of the vehicle. However, Bieber tweeted Monday that it wasn't true he'd given away the 18th birthday gift that manager Scooter Braun gave him back in March. "i might let a friend drive my car but i didnt give him my car. #rumors #funnystuff," Bieber wrote.
Bieber and Kingston have been taking each other's cars out for spins for years. In a 2010 interview with MTV, Kingston revealed that he let the teen superstar, who was then just 16, zip around town in his Ferrari. "He's Justin Bieber. If he wrecks it, I'm sure a check won't be a problem," Kingston joked at the time.
The young singers have been pals for several years. Kingston, in that same MTV one-on-one, described how their relationship began. "I met Justin about two years ago before he was the teenage phenom that he is now," said Kingston, who's about four years older than Bieber. "I don't really have that same chemistry with some celebrities. God just made it happen." In addition to recording joint tracks like "Eenie Meenie," the duo has gone on tour together as well. And when Kingston was seriously injured in a Jet Ski accident in May 2011, Bieber kept close tabs on his BFF's condition and sent a heartfelt message via Twitter. "Got my friend @seankingston in my prayers tonight. a true friend and big bro. please keep him in your prayers tonight as well."
