The usually private "Love on Top" singer released the trailer for the still-unnamed special on Monday, and although the 25-second clip is brief, it does give a glimpse of what fans can expect come February 16: lots of behind-the-scenes action … including a shot of her pregnant belly!
"I always battle with, 'How much do I reveal about myself?'" Beyonce, 31, says in a voiceover. "If I'm scared, be scared, allow it. Release it." As she speaks, images flash onscreen of the singer sitting in a bathroom with no makeup, hugging husband Jay-Z at a party, and getting hounded by fans on the street.
According to HBO, the documentary, which was directed by Beyonce, will feature lots of confessional interviews that were shot on her own personal laptop, in addition to childhood videos before she became a superstar as part of Destiny's Child.
It was first reported in August that Beyonce was shopping around the footage, although it seemed the project was going to be a theatrical release a la Katy Perry's "Part of Me" or Justin Bieber's "Never Say Never." Perhaps the disappointing box office returns on Perry's film — which only pulled in $7 million in its first weekend of release — swayed Beyonce to cable?
Regardless, the world will be seeing a lot more of Beyonce in the new year. She's set to be the halftime entertainment at the Super Bowl on February 3, just 10 days before the documentary airs.
