It is already beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Jennifer Hudson's house.
Earlier this week, the "Smash" star set off on a fun family adventure to cut down their own Christmas tree. The "Think Like a Man" singer detailed the experience on Twitter — with photos aplenty! — and revealed that the tree-cutting process was a little harder than expected.
Hudson — who was accompanied by her fiancé, David Otunga, and their 3-year-old son, David Jr. on the outing — started her tweet spree by writing, "Our Christmas story! Time to find [our] Christmas tree!" The accompanying photo showed the 31-year-old goofing around with the saw and making funny faces as they arrived at the tree farm.
Once there, mother and son ran around hand in hand. "Skipping n singing our fav Christmas songs!!" she noted. David Jr., whom she refers to as "Munch," was so caught up in the holiday spirit he "thought he saw Santa in the sky," Hudson shared.

The Hudson-Otunga tree finding mission was actually a two-parter. First, they picked out a tree for David Jr. The little fir was so small that Otunga pulled it "straight up out the ground," Hudson wrote. Father and son then posed side by side while "Big David" held the tree in one hand. Then it was on to find their big tree, which wasn't as easy to cut down as they had hoped. "I don't think dada expected this to be this hard," wrote Hudson, who posted a photo of Otunga — jacket off — looking exhausted. But he finally managed to bring the tree down and "Santa's Lil helper," as Hudson dubbed David Jr., brought the cart over to his dad to wheel the tree back to the car.
On Thursday, it was announced that Hudson will join Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett in new musical movie "Black Nativity." It's based on a show that was originally written by Langston Hughes and appeared off-Broadway in 1961. The movie will follow a teen boy who is sent to spend Christmas with his estranged grandparents (Whitaker and Bassett). Hudson will play the boy's mother. The "Dreamgirls" star has also been busy filming a guest role in "Smash," which returns to the airwaves on February 5.
But for now — Hudson and her family are focused on the holidays. And they're already off to a festive start!
