Buzziest Moments from the Golden Globes

The 69th annual Golden Globe awards show is kind of like the little sister of the award shows. It gets away with a bit more mischief and a lot more fun than its responsible, older sibling, the Academy Awards does later in the year. The Foreign Press Association seems to court controversy, asking back Ricky Gervais to host again this year even after his controversial comments last time around. Here, some of the show's top moments.

    Madonna's Racy Comment

Madonna, who got a statue her tune "Masterpiece" from the movie "W.E.," which she also directed, stepped forward to present the award for best foreign film. And that's when things got naughty. Ricky Gervais started it with this introduction: "She's always vogue. She's a material girl. And she's just like a virgin," he said sarcastically.

Without missing a beat, Madonna stepped up to the mic and delivered this zinger: "If I'm still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don't you come over here and do something about it? I haven't kissed a girl in a few years … on TV."

Though she was looking back at her onstage kiss with Britney Spears, Madonna's (most likely unintentional) reference to another princess of pop didn't go unnoticed. Moments after Madonna joked about how long it's been since she "kissed a girl," the "I Kissed a Girl" singer herself, Katy Perry, tweeted, "Madge looks goooooood. I'd tap that. #goldenglobes." Oh, it's on!

    Michelle Williams' Marilyn Moment

Looking glowing and modern with her pixie cut and vintage Jason Wu gown, Michelle Williams picked up a best actress award for "My Week with Marilyn"… and thanked her daughter for helping her prepare for the role of the screen siren.

"I consider myself a mother first and an actress second," the actress said in her acceptance speech. The star spoke of her 6-year-old daughter Matilda's "bravery and exuberance" as " the example I take with me in my life and work."

[ Photos: All of the Globes red carpet looks ]

Williams thanked her daughter for "suffering through six months of bedtime stories where all the princesses were read aloud in a Marilyn Monroe-sounding voice." We're sure many fans would hardly consider that suffering.

    Clooney Clowns Around

When it was his turn to introduce best drama nominee "Moneyball," which stars his pal Brad Pitt, George Clooney walked out on stage sporting Mr. Pitt's cane. The "Moneyball" actor had appeared on the red carpet earlier that night walking with the cane after injuring his knee while carrying his daughter Vivienne down a hill recently.  Clooney, who managed to make walking with a stick look dashing, joked, "I have to give it back to him or he can't get to the bar.

"The Descendents" star — who took home a best actor award -- gave another shout-out to his friend and fellow nominee Pitt when accepting his award. The gracious Clooney noted, "It's nice to see Brad and it's nice to be able to tell him not just what wonderful work he's doing in two films this year but what wonderful work he does in the rest of the world. I'm a fan." Right back atcha, George.

Why is it when a woman ages she is called an old hag but when a man ages he is called distinguished??? Sounds like something men say to degrade women. There is one of reasons we have so many men abandoning their wives and families to crawl in bed with something younger and to try and satisfy themselves sexually. What is really funny is the joke is on them, the younger woman only marries you because you have money, not because your a good looker or sexually hot in bed. In fact they are often laughed at behind their backs a lot and not only by their new wives but everyone!!!

I can't stand that vain, narcissistic vibe of Madonna's and I never thought she was very talented, but I am in complete agreement with what you say about a woman being dismissed as an old hag when she ages, but a man can be 60 and still be considered 'hot'. It's true that men generally do tend to age better than women, but the double standard is annoying and ridiculous.

I like Madonna and I agree. It's like nature. Women are like flowers and men are like trees. Young women have to take advantage of their youth before it fades and old men have to use their money before it's too late. That's nature, like it or not.

I have news for both of you, Julie and Dee! There are PLENTY of older men out there that look like s**t. They don't have a "distinguished" bone in their body. There are PLENTY of older women out there that look fantastic--Madonna just isn't one of them.

If some clown in a saloon swears, he's a jerk. If some hollywood type swears on TV, she's cute! What a bunch of crap! A bunch of spoiled, overpaid, brats.
      • BloodMeridian 4 months ago
right on, Doug ...these hollywood types think, "Let me curse; ooh, i'm a grownup!"
      • say 4 months ago
guess what? most everyone curses. if you had their job you would get caught cursing on camera too. Jealousy and hatred. keep hating!
      • AttilaY 4 months ago
Overpaid? Hardly. If showing your face on a screen could generate 100 million in revenue for someone I'd say you'd completely deserve making an income such as theirs. The simple fact is that actors work 10x harder than 99.9% of people out there and have earned their success through strict discipline and persistence.

Lame comment that has been said numerous times already.. She has been living in England. You pick up accents when you live among them. Let's hope she doesn't get too close to you. I couldn't stand to hear a redneck Madonna.

Meh. It happens when we move overseas. For me, I don't hear American English anywhere around me for over a decade, so I clearly have an accent when I return home to visit. It something that simply happens when your ears and your daily speaking become accustomed to speaking in another rythym. Oddly, I can type out American dialects just fine. And as much as I've picked up from my daily surroundings and my European other half's accent, unfortunately from me he has picked up the habit of saying things like "y'all" or "Oh my Lord!", not realizing he comes off like an 80 year old southern grandmother.

I'll never understand people who come on here and bash someone for being old. Or why they wanna sit and call them names like old hag, old hen, etc. We all age, we all get older. Like you really look as good as you did 5, 10 yrs ago!

I will not watch video with commercials in them. No, no, no.
    • rick  •  4 months ago
Madonna said that? And they wonder why so many people have tuned out of these so called award shows. (me a long time ago) Seems like we all made the right choice.

Wasn't it obvious that Madonna was saying that she considered Ricky a #$%$ Queen and if he would kiss her on stage it would satsify her lack of tongue lock with a (near) woman .

Has anyone else noticed Yahoo's trend of picking an actor or actress to cover for a week and then there are four or five stories about them, most of which are just useless dribble? One week it was Jennifer Aniston, then Brad Pitt had a week, Angelina got a week too. The past few days have been all about Madonna.
