The surprise three Golden Globe nominations for "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen," including one for Best Picture (Comedy or Musical), had a lot of viewers scratching their heads yesterday. What is this comedy and why is it haunting us? Well, back in March, when it came out, we saw it and chatted up its star, Emily Blunt. Despite its exotic title, "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" is a meet-cute, opposites-attract, feel-good British rom-com. Blunt (nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Comedy or Musical) plays Harriet, the London rep of a fabulously wealthy Yemeni sheik and fly-fishing fanatic. On a whim, he gets Harriet to recruit a reluctant fisheries expert, Fred (Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy or Musical nominee Ewan McGregor), to export Scottish salmon to the sheik's homeland. Harriet and Fred's budding romance seems nearly as impossible as shipping live fish to the desert: Fuddy-duddy Fred is married to a chilly workaholic; Harriet adores a dashing officer on a secret foreign mission. How can the pair ever stop fussing long enough to lock lips? Well, for one thing, they are Blunt and McGregor and virtually irresistible to mere mortals. Intrigued, we got on the phone with the charming "Looper" star -- and wife of John Krasinski -- about "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" and romancing scene-stealer McGregor onscreen:

    • What do "Chicago" (2002), "Shakespeare in Love" (1998) and "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989) all have in common? Over the past 40 years, these are the only three Oscar champs for Best Picture that first claimed victory at the Golden Globes in the Best Comedy/Musical Picture race. For the first time in nearly a decade, that magic could strike again thanks to "The Artist."

By smartly entering the warm-hearted film in this Globes category instead of the Drama race, director Michel Hazanavicius got to bypass other Oscar frontrunners including "The Descendants," "Hugo," "The Help," "Moneyball," "War Horse" and "The Ides of March." While those films duked it out at the Globes for the bragging rights of Best Drama Picture, "The Artist" faced virtually no competition in the Comedy/Musical category.

Sunday's Golden Globes results make one thing clear for the upcoming Oscars race. One single movie won't sweep the Academy Awards

      • "The Artist" and "The Descendants" are now the clear Best Picture front-runners.
      • George Clooney is the one to beat for Best Actor. Meanwhile, "The Artist" charmer Jean Dujardin became a household name -- but he should buy a copy of Rosetta Stone now.
      • "The Iron Lady"'s Meryl Streep will finally get that third Oscar this year, while Viola Davis of "The Help" will be showered with leading roles. Michelle Williams, the comedy and musical winner, will be nominated for an Oscar but won't win.
      • Octavia Spencer will bring "The Help" some Oscar love as Best Supporting Actress.
      • Octogenarian Christopher Plummer, honored here for playing a gay dad who comes out of the closet late in life, will get lifetime love that stretches all the way back to "The Sound of Music."

Some Golden Globe nominees have peaked already. Here's where they stand:

When you're as famous as Madonna and Sir Elton John, maybe there's nothing left to do but feud -- and last night at the Golden Globes, their little battle seemed to reignite. John lit the first barb on the red carpet, remarking that Madonna had "no (expletive) chance" of winning Best Original Song, an award for which he was also in contention.

And after asking if her rival was "wearing a dress," Madge remarked, "Let the best man win." And so she did -- picking up the Globe for her "Masterpiece," featured in "W.E.," which also marked her directorial debut.

Madonna's acceptance speech, complete with her mild British accent, seemed tame enough, but John's husband, David Furnish, wouldn't have it. "Madonna. Best song???? F**k off!!!" Furnish wrote on Facebook, according to TMZ. "Madonna winning Best Original Song truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit. Her acceptance speech was embarrassing in its narcissism."

Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic (inset)Getty ImagesSomething about the Golden Globes makes some nominees shoe crazy, and it's not always in a good way. Most actresses dazzled in their Manolo Blahniks, Christian Louboutins or Jimmy Choo heels. But "The Descendants" star Shailene Woodley had a different idea.

After the ceremony, the actress ditched her Marchesa dress and Tabitha Simmons shoes for an entirely different ensemble for the In Style/Warner Bros. after party. And while she still opted to wear a gown, her choice in footwear was definitely nontraditional. Woodley selected what looked to be a pair of Vibram "Five Finger" shoes, choosing comfort over style. Shailene is certainly not the first to turn heads for a unique footwear choice at the Golden Globes. Last year, Helena Bonham Carter made headlines by rocking two different shoes down the red carpet. The actress paired her Vivienne Westwood dress with mismatched heels -- one red and one green -- and accessorized with a

    • Tina Fey’s Golden Globes Photobomb

Last night Ricky Gervais's jokes were anything but subtle, and the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards seemed to be laced with sexual innuendo (even Seth Rogan referenced his own libido while presenting with Kate Beckinsale). But leave it to "30 Rock" star Tina Fey to clean things up with a little move that practically stole friend and former "SNL" costar Amy Poehler's thunder.

When the camera panned to Poehler for her nominee shot -- both women were up for Best Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy -- Fey moved in behind her, stealthily photobombing the "Parks and Recreation" star, smiling goofily behind Poehler's head.

While Fey's move was award-worthy (and perhaps the first photobomb at a Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards show), Laura Dern took home the Golden Globe for her work in HBO's "Enlightened."

    • JoliePittBEVERLY HILLS, Calif.Angelina Jolie set tongues wagging before the Golden Globes ceremony had even begun on Sunday with a racy off-camera remark about her partner Brad Pitt.

While Brangelina were both a model of sophistication during their television interviews, Jolie cheekily let her guard slip towards the end of her marathon media stint on the red carpet.

When asked what she was most looking forward to from the evening, AP reports she winked and whispered: "Getting into bed with Brad."

Jolie's quip was one of several priceless celebrity moments from the Beverly Hilton Hotel that television viewers never got to see.

The star-studded bash, hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, has a reputation for being more light-hearted and relaxed than the Academy Awards, and plenty of stars were happy to let their hair down.

    • BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Jonah Hill has revealed the secret behind how he made Brad Pitt collapse in fits of laughter on a bloopers reel for the movie "Moneyball."

Footage of Pitt unable to utter his lines as he giggled hysterically for nearly three minutes was included as a bonus segment on the movie's DVD release and has been widely viewed on the Internet.

Pitt, who played Oakland Athletics' general manager Billy Beane, sits opposite Hill and tries to complete a scene where the two men discuss a home run they had just witnessed on video.

"With Brad, every day is hilarious so it could have been anything," Hill said at Sunday's Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "There are so many funny things that happen and that he is responsible for."

"But from memory I think it was one of those things. The scene itself was pretty funny and then it just got to the point where the laughter was uncontrollable."

The scene from the movie relayed a true incident where Jeremy Brown, a heavy and

Steve Granitz/WireImageblog_Walsh_Grammer_011612BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Kelsey Grammer paid a moving tribute to his pregnant wife, Kayte Walsh, on Sunday night and insisted that his Golden Globe victory for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama was further proof that his life has "turned a corner."

The 56-year-old star celebrated with fellow cast members from "Boss" as he claimed the award just hours after announcing Walsh is due to give birth to twins later this year.

With three failed marriages behind him and widely reported battles with substance abuse and destructive lifestyle issues, Grammer told Yahoo! how his recent revival would not have been possible without Walsh, who's 26 years his junior.

    • Ricky Gervais Regrets Past Globes Jokes

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Ricky Gervais made a personal decision to tone down his Golden Globes hosting act following the angry backlash to his controversial jokes last year, Yahoo! can exclusively reveal.

It was widely suspected that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which organizes the Globes, had ordered Gervais to adopt a more sensitive approach before inviting him back for the third time.

However, Gervais' friend Gerard Butler told Yahoo! that the British comedian had been stung by criticism of his 2011 performance and despite much anticipation that he would give Hollywood's finest another roasting, made his own choice to temper his more callous jokes.

"I think everyone expected him to really go for it again," said Butler, star of "300," "The Bounty Hunter" and "The Ugly Truth." "But after we spoke I thought that he would be a bit more restrained this time around."
